Emerald Ball Destined for Terminal City Club
By CLIFF CAPRANI
VANCOUVER — This year, the Ireland Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) decided to try something a little different for the festive season. A lively group sailed, ate, drank and sang their way up the Indian Arm inlet as part of a flotilla of carol ships.
Thirty-eight members and their friends boarded the MV Abitibi on a dark and stormy Saturday night in early December. The ladies looked particular elegant, wearing corsages made and presented by Linda Lard and Melanie Taylor — a lovely touch indeed.
After a pleasant supper of turkey dinner with all the trimmings, an enthusiastic duo led everyone in hearty renditions of a variety of Christmas music. Several of the women also distinguished themselves with a rollicking good rendition of Frosty the Snowman. All in all, a most enjoyable way to
spend a Saturday evening with friends.
The ICCC is an organization dedicated to fostering trade, commerce and commercial enterprise between the peoples of Ireland and Canada, and it provides a forum in which its members can develop business and meet and exchange ideas.
The ICCC welcomes members from all four Provinces of Ireland, Irish-Canadians or those connected through family ties and men and women or organizations engaging in business with Ireland.
The next ICCC event on the calendar is a networking evening to
be held on February 17 at the Holiday Inn Vancouver Centre located at 711 West Broadway. This is an opportunity for members to meet other members and exchange business cards, brochures and samples. For more information, call John Whelehan at (604) 987-2908.
This will be followed on March 4 with this year's Emerald Ball 2000 which will be held at the Terminal City Club, one of Vancouver's most prestigious private clubs. The Terminal City Club is located in the heart of the financial district and has been a distinguished part of the city's history since 1899. It has been acclaimed for decades for its international cuisine and impeccable service.
Tickets are available at Celtic Creations on Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. For more information, call (604) 437-9247.

Stage Eireann Invites Everyone to Special Meeting
By PATRICK MCMULLEN
VANCOUVER — As President of Stage Eireann, I would like to thank everyone who has supported our organization over the years.
In particular, I would like to thank the present Executive of Marilyn Muldoon, Mary Ann Mutter, Brenda Warren and Ron Barker for their work in our recent production A Little Like Paradise and for all of their efforts in what turned out to be a difficult transitional year for Stage Eireann.
At this time, I extend a special invitation to all Stage Eireann members and anyone interested in building on our past successes to an open meeting at 1 PM on March 4, in the Boardroom of the Alliance for Arts and Culture at suite 100, 938 Howe Street in Vancouver.
We will be holding a brain-storming session to discuss fund raising avenues, how we can increase active membership in the company and more effectively publicize our productions. A positive outcome to this meeting is vitally
important for the future of Stage Eireann.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge some people who put forward great effort in helping to make A Little Like Paradise the production it was.
Bernadette Percy, for her tireless efforts; Veronica Stabler for her work at the door. Mick Lynch, for putting up and tearing down the set; Jim Norris (Kerri Norris' dad), for work in the shop building, and on stage putting up the set; Pat Warren for the same.
Bill Forbes for directing and stepping in to a sudden opening in the cast; and Helen O'Toole, who along with myself, co-designed the set.
Thank you also to the base painters, Carmel Byrne, Jessica Hill, and finishing painter Tracy Hway and my niece, Lisa McMullen for their fine efforts. Patd Arthur, an old collegue, and a teacher at North Burnaby Senior Secondary, who put me onto Chris May, (our brilliant 16-year old stage manager) and Ted Harrison, who did
yoeman service at the sound desk.
And finally, Jonathan Ryder of the Vancouver East Cultural Centre; Colin Campbell and Samara Van Nostrand of the Vancouver Playhouse; Bruce Kennedy of Studio 58; Tod Elvidgc of CBC; Si Garber of Goldrush Sound; Michael Gall; Greenscape; David Lloyd at Christie Lites; Tim Matheson; and Adrian Muir.
