SCOTTISH CEILIDHS A KICK
VANCOUVER - The word is out... there's a rollicking good time to be had at the local Scottish Ceilidh Dances and the increase in participants this season reflects the growing popularity of these events.
When asked for the secret of his success, Duncan Mackenzie, coordinator and instructor, responded, "the enthusiasm of the dancers! They're really having fun and, at 65, it's an evenings enter-
tainment that doesn't break the bank."
The season wraps up with a special ceilidh, held in conjunction with the upcoming Hyack Festival, local Celtic group Blackthorn will provide the music for the May 25 event, taking place at the Arenex, Queen's Park, New Westminster.
Duncan will be guiding those in attendance through the popular
social dances of Scotland, so it's a perfect opportunity to take your kilt out for a spin. Tickets are 615.
Anyone wishing to continue dancing this summer, look for Scottish Country Dancing at Ceperley Playground in Stanley Park on Mondays at 7:30 PM, starting June 18. The Ceilidh dances will resume September 28 at their usual venue, the Scottish Cultural Centre.
