Hard Work and Talent Pays Off for The Paperboys
have earned respect in the music industry for this hard-work and talent. Tom said, "We've been nominated again for a second Juno Award for our CD Postcards.
"This is the third nomination for the band. We were really honoured and excited to win the award in 1998 for our CD Molinos.
"We've also been nominated in the States for an Indy Award and here at home for a Georgia Straight Music Award and two West Coast Music Awards."
This summer the band will be back on the road again touring throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Tom said, "we get a bit of a break in the winter and then next spring, we tour in Germany.
"Our band has been together for 10 years now, so either in the late summer or early fall, we're planning to put together a little 10-year compilation CD of the best of our three albums and to add some material we have yet to record."

By CATHOLINE BUTLER
VANCOUVER - Tom Landa and the Paperboys were back in Vancouver on May 4 and 5 to present the Celtic & Roots Festival at the Croatian Cultural Centre.
I spoke with Tom as he was setting-up band equipment for their evening concert. He spoke to me about The Paperboys' upcoming touring schedule and future plans.
He said, "Well, we released a new CD in October on Red House Records called Post Cards; it's our first on a U.S. label.
"We've just come off a five-week tour in which we covered quite a bit of the U.S., a lot of the Midwest such as Chicago; Bloomington, Illinois; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota and then on out to the East coast covering Boston, New York City, North Carolina, and Virginia Beach ... so all over in the States.
"We also did some dates in Canada as well, Wakefield, Quebec; Montreal, and Toronto and now we're back home and hosting the Celtic Festival again and this is our seventh year for promoting the festival.
"This year we're presenting, The Old Blind Dogs, Slainte Mhath, Linda McRae and Sharon Shannon. Every year we change our entertainment, always trying to see what works best at the festival.
"This will also be our fourth year for presenting the festival'in Victoria. With all the touring the band does, it's incredibly hard to organize a festival when you're on the road, but my wife, Jenise Boland, holds down the fort here at home and co-ordinates everything for me. We also have a small staff of two and a lot of volunteers who help out at the festival, so by no
means do I do it alone. tqm lanDA with Sharon Shannon at the Vancouver Celtic &

U2 Tell Fans it's Safe to Visit Ireland
DUBLIN - Speaking during the Los Angeles leg of a promotional trip in the United States, Irish tourism minister Jim McDaid welcomed the support from rock stars U2 in helping to get the message out that Ireland is open for visitors.
Lead singer Bono described as "ridiculous" rumours that visitors to Ireland could contract foot-and-mouth disease.
Bono, who is currently taking part in a sell-out U.S. tour said, "We are happy to help dispel the rumours that foot-and-mouth disease has made Ireland unsafe for tourists. We would like to tell everyone that Ireland is a perfectly safe place for a vacation."
Meanwhile, Irish music promoters MCD have begun the process to secure a licence to stage a second U2 concert at Slane Castle this year.
Lord Henry Mount Charles, owner of Slane Castle, said he hopes fans who already have tickets for the first concert do not buy tickets for the second one, and
that ticket sales will be reduced from six to four per person for the second gig.
There was open criticism by the band themselves, and thousands of U2 fans who had queued for hours for tickets for the first gig only to be disappointed when they sold out within 45 minutes. If Meath County Council gives the concert the green light at the end of June, there will be 80,000 tickets available for the September 1 gig. - The Irish Times.
