Capercaillie Return this Summer
VANCOUVER - Fans of Capercaillie will be delighted to learn that the Scottish supergroup will perform live at the Commodore Ballroom on August 11.
Since hitting the world stage 21 years ago, Capercaillie has been credited as the major force in the resurgence of traditional Celtic music. Inspired by long-standing links with the Gaelic tradition, the band brings a modern twist to ancient songs, spellbinding audiences with its musical dexterity and high voltage energy.
Capercaillie makes a long-awaited return to Vancouver, appearing as part of the fifth annual Festival Vancouver with its usual suspects and fronted by the peerless vocals of Karen Matheson, who has been described by fellow Scot Sean Connery as having "a throat that is surely touched by God."
Of one thing you can be certain: Capercaillie's lively playing and hauntingly beautiful tunes are a surefire formula to set spirits sailing.
Q magazine said of the group, "their seductively contemporary sound and production, their mastery of traditional instruments (along with a willingness to look beyond them) and the voice of Karen Matheson have helped Capercaillie re-model the Celtic landscape."
Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.ca (604) 280-3311 For more information about Festival Vancouver go to www.festivalvancouver.bc.ca.
