Young Girl So Drunk She Can't Remember Being Arrested
A teenage girl got so intoxicated that shecould not recall being arrested for being drunk and disorderly at a Finglas, Dublin, housing estate last December 18. The 17-year-old pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to being intoxicated in a public place and also admitted to a breach of the peace.
She has no memory of being arrested and first learned about it when she received a summons. Garda Jim McDevitt, of Finglas Station, said the girl had become extremely abusive when cautioned to leave the area where she had been drinking with a group of youths. She was then arrested and taken to the Garda station. The girl, who is on a Fas course and has no previous convictions, told the court: "I can't remember it. I did not know I was getting a summons." Judge Murphy adj ourned the case until July 11.
New Security Channel at Dublin Airport
The recent security arrangements at Dublin Airport meant that domestic travellers were not saving any time by opting to travel by air rather than rail as long delays at security were taking up much time. This situation has prompted Dublin Airport Authority to introduce an extra security channel for domestic passengers only. They are now being asked to arrive at the airport at least 60 minutes before flight time as opposed to the 90 minutes required of other travellers.

Grants Announced by Ireland Fund
The American Ireland Fund has announced FU8.2 million in grants for charitable and community groups in Ireland. The money will support a range of initiatives for 300 groups addressing a number of issues including reconciliation in the North, mental health and suicide. Details were given at the Fund's annual conference in Cork.
AIF Chair Loretta Brennan Glucksman told the Sunday Business Post that the organisation has faced some challenges in convincing Americans to give money to Ireland, now that the country is economically successful, saying that it was a "tough sell." She noted, however, "The irony of the Celtic Tiger is that many people have been left behind." The AIF also announced that William Trevor will receive the 34th AWB Vincent American Ireland Fund Literary Award of FU21,000.
