Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir Annual Christmas Concerts
VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Welsh Men's Christmas Concert Series has become a hugely popular seasonal tradition for countless Lower Mainland families. Now in its 28th season, the VWMC promises to provide concert goers with an uplifting start to the Christmas season.
The choir which has grown to over 100 singers from a variety of national and ethnic backgrounds, makes annual tours throughout British Columbia. International tours have taken the choir to the U.S., England, Wales, Holland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia.
Next year, they will travel to central Europe for concerts in Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Salzburg and Vienna.
The VWMC's Christmas Concert Series program ranges from traditional carols to contemporary Christmas songs and offers a heart warming introduction to the season. For more information, visit the choir website at: www.vwmc.ca.
MIAMI SHOWBAND 'JOY TO THE WORLD' TOUR
Thirty years after three of its members were shot dead in a loyalist ambush, the Miami Showband kicked off a nationwide tour in Ballymena, County Antrim, on November 1.
The popular Seventies cabaret band were returning to Dublin after a gig in Banbridge, County Down, when the UVF attacked their van in 1975.
The gunmen had planned to set up a fake checkpoint wearing British army uniforms and conceal explosives in the band's van to make it look as though they were smuggling bombs. But the explosives detonated prematurely, killing two of the gang.
UVF gunmen then opened fire killing singer Fran O'Toole, guitarist Tony Geraghty and trumpeter Brian McCoy.
Two others were badly injured while a sixth member was not present. The band will return to Banbridge in December to pay tribute to the fans who had made them feel so welcome in the Seventies.
Bassist and manager Steve Travers said, "Banbridge marked the last time we were really happy on stage, so Banbridge is a very good memory for us."
