By CONOR WALSHE
VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Irish Sporting and Social Club travelled to San Francisco to compete in the Smithwicks Gaelic Football and Hurling 7's tournament on the May long weekend.
The 28 degree heat that weekend in San Fran brought out a great number of teams and supporters to the GAA field in Treasure Island.
The new impressive GAA field was officially opened by President Mary McAleese in December 2008 and this tournament in which Vancouver had the privilege of playing was the

Likewise, the ladies football team did exceptionally well, considering they travelled enough numbers to field a team, narrowly losing out to the eventual winners Saoirse Fog in the semi-final.
The Vancouver hurlers displayed some superb hurling throughout the day but alas never made it to the final stages of the tournament.
The post-tournament gathering and presentations were held in the 32 Counties bar in San Francisco. A fun weekend was had by all.

Finals will be played on June 28. Ladies and gents teams will travel from Seattle, Calgary, and Edmonton to contest in the first leg of the Western Division championship.

Barcelona wins European Champion Soccer League Against Manchester United 2-0
IN a match which Barcelona controlled throughout the game with perfect ball control Manchester was unable to get a grip on the game.
The match was supposed to showcase the strength of each of the two sides, Manchester United and Barcelona FC. Instead, the battle appeared to be a clash between a conscious group of warriors (Barcelona) and a mentally wounded Red army (Manchester United).
Ronaldo struck an excellent free-kick from 30 yards which almost caught Barcelona's goalkeeper Victor Valdez. Positioned as a striker on the pitch, the World Player of the Year managed to have some good cracks on goal.
With six minutes gone down the clock, Ronaldo tried his luck again with a long range effort quite similar

to his wonder strike against FC Porto. But the ball flew wide, allowing Victor Valdez to breathe at last.
The Portuguese winger also gave another scare to the Blaugrana with a low shot from inside the 18-yard box. But the unlucky ace's ball just
couldn't roll across the line. But the devastating moment soon came when Manchester United were caught on the counterattack led by Barcelona's Iniesta.
Fto'o was there to punish the Red Devils and give Barcelona the lead after just 10 minutes, squeezing the ball past Manchester's Dutch goalkeeper, Fdwin van der Sar, and ultimately into the net.
From there, Manchester United were only chasing shadows. The Red Devils - dressed in an all-white kit on the night - just weren't able to show up their real character of champions.
Lionel Messi clinched the game for Barcelona with a brilliant second goal well into the second half.
Barcelona had a sold out crowd of about 83,000 people with some 350 million people watching the game on television.
