Ireland Monument Society Update
VANCOUVER - Brendan Flynn, spokesman for the Ireland Canada Monument Society said the society is delighted to announce that the Vancouver Parks Board has responded favourably to their latest design for a proposed monument to be located at Thornton Park.
He said, "while we can expect that there will be minor changes, the overall form and character have been decided. Next, we will be refining the images and text to be displayed on various parts of the monument and tell the story of the Irish in Canada.
"In the near future we will move forward to a public process. A sign will be erected on the site of the proposed monument and the surrounding neighbours will be informed by a mailed notice."
The Ireland Canada Monument wants to ensure that the Irish contribution in
building Canada as a nation can be relayed to future generations of Canadians and visitors to Canada in the years to come.
The Monument committee would like to extend their thanks to all who have assisted and supported the project to date. They will soon initiate a fundraising campaign to finance the project.

Fast Literary Facts
Ireland is still a land of scholars. It remains one of the most literate societies in the world, with more than 2.9 million people (almost 82 percent) of the adult population regularly reading a newspaper.
Indeed, despite the rapid growth of alternative media channels, newspapers, television and radio still represent the 'tried and trusted' source of information for the vast majority of people.
