A magical candle-lit concert with spellbinding stories and music
MISSION - The Mission Folk Music Festival will present a magical candle lit winter evening concert with Irish harpist and storyteller Patrick Ball on December 13.
The Christmas Rose concert is Patrick's Christmas gift to the festival. It will be a memorable night of genuine music and storytelling in a candle lit setting that will illuminate the dark winter night, warm the ears and bring hope to the heart.
Some years ago Patrick Ball recorded a wonderful Christmas album and gave it the name The Christmas Rose after a very beautiful traditional melody that his mother loved from her childhood.
The recording was awarded the National Association of Independent Record Distributors Indie Award for Best Seasonal Recording of 1991, became a best seller in its own small way, and prompted many requests for a live concert which would feature the pieces on the recording with a selection of beloved seasonal stories.
So, Patrick stepped into a magical world of English and Irish literature, Celtic legend and traditional folk beliefs and drew out tales, legends and stories, mingled them with music of Winter, Solstice, and the Christmas season and came up with a concert presentation of The Christmas Rose.
PATRICK BALL is one of the world's premier harp players. His gift to the Mission Folk Festival this year is a concert to help the much loved festival in a time of severe funding cuts.
Ireland with its crystalline, bell-like voice, and in performing marvellous tales of wit and enchantment, he not only brings new life to two cherished traditions, but blends them in concert to create a richly theatrical and hauntingly beautiful performance.
The stories and music touch on what is, to Patrick's way of thinking, the central message of the Christmas and Winter season: Hope. Hope for something wondrous. Hope for a light in the darkness.
Patrick is donating this concert to the Mssion Folk Music Festival as a way of supporting the festival in a time of severe funding cuts.
He is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist. In playing the ancient, legendary brass-strung harp of
