participated in cross country for the Teds and posted a 4:55 mile time in track last spring. Dick enjoys running, not quite to the degree that he docs boxing but enough so that in his training program he has run from his home in St. Johns up Germantown road to the heights overlooking the city and back again, a trek of some seven miles. Planned for the near future is a jaunt out to Sauvies Island and return.
Introduction to boxing came the same way that it does to most youths. Sue attended a smoker at which a fight card was the main entertainment. "I went away with a feeling that I could beat those guys." Next step was to enter boxing classes at the St. Johns Community Center under the capable direction of Bill Lordos. "He taught me well," Sue said of Lordos.
Sue started fighting as a southpaw. But, it didn't take Lordos long to convert him to a right handed puncher. This was a fine move inasmuch as Dick's best punch is a left hook and his second best punch is a left jab. As a lefty, he wasn't able to take advantage of his natural talents.
At present, his fighting weight is 127. But he believes that he probably will end up as a lightweight.
His career as a professional is just starting, but already Sue lias some definite goals. "I want to get rated, maybe even be a champion some day." With the diminishing number of those who are willing to fight professionally, thoso dreams are far from being out of the question. Another possibility is college, but Sue says this will come only "If I make enough money." Col-h、gt、 c(utainly is not out of the question as Dick has kept up with his work well in high school. "I did flunk art last time," he said with chagrin. It wasn't mentioned that many of the rest of us have had similar problems.
Perhaps the biggest thing in Sue's favor in his newly chosen vocation is the fact that he enjoys boxing and that it just isn't a way to make money. And what he likes most about it is "knocking them out."
