APPROACHING MARRIAGES

OBITUARY
The death occurred, Thursday, April 29, at her home, 1637 Jeanne Mance Street, in her sixteenth year, of Nettie, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Schefier. Funeral Friday, April 30. Rabbi Dubmitsky officiated. Burial at the Chevra Kadisha Cemetery. The deceased leaves her parents, one brother, Oscar, and four sisters, Bertha, Fanny, Rose and Esther.

DOUBLE DROWNING
Max Epstein, 35 years of age, and Michael Astrof, 25 years old, were drowned in a sudden thunderstorm and violent squall while fishing near the Old Chambly Fort, near St. Mary Rapids, Sunday, May 2. Michael Astrof leaves his father, Joseph Astrof, four sisters, Mrs. D. H. Bernstein, Mrs. J. Levitt, Misses Esther and Lillian Astrof, and one brother^ Harry Astrof. Max Epstein is the son of Isaac Epstein, who is in Tel-a-viv, Palestine, and of Mrs. I. Epstein. He leaves three brothers, Hyman, Harry and Moe; and three sisters, Mrs. H. ELn, of Glace Bay, N.S., Shirley and Berenice Epstein.
BROTHERHOOD OF AMERICAN YEOMEN
The Brotherhood of American Yeomen held a social and dance in the lodge rooms, Tuesday, April 20. Five-piece orchestra. The convener was Mrs. Samuel Selector, Lady Rowena, assisted by Archers Jean Yess, Fanny Lazarus and Hattie Tenenbaum. A tray, donated by Miss RudnikofT, was raffled, netting $12, which went to the Yeomen treasury.

Dr. David Simon Blondheim, Professor of Romance Philology at the Johns Hopkins University, has received an award of one thousand francs from the Academie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres of the French Institute for his recently published book, "Les Parlera Judeo-Komans et la Vetua Latina." Dr. Blondheim is the first American to receive a prii� from the French Institute for a work in the Romance language*.
