JEWISH WESTERN BULLETIN
THUHSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1935
REDIRECTED COMPLIMENT
In our issue of April 18th, we carried an article by Rabbi J. L. ZIotnick, under the name of "ZangweU Said—." The article was widely reprinted in part and in whole.
(the organ of the Young Judaean When the Judcean of Montreal
Fedcr&tioa of Canaca) repruUed it they made a change that \\c ua-dcrstand the rabbi laughed over, but did not resent.
The original introduction of the rabbi bore tribute and dedication to "the splendid type of Jewish youth in a comparatively small and isolated Jewish community" (meaning Vancouver).
In reprinting the introduction the Montreal Judaean changed it to "splendid type of Jewish youth in the various comparatively small and isolated Jewish communities I have visited in Canada."
probability of this performance having resulted from pure chance was only 3 in 1000.
Dr. Roback concluded that, in written examinations, Jewish students:
1. CJenerally chose, when an option was permitted, broad historical topics in preference to technical and restricted questions.
2. Were more "expansive" (not necessarily more verbose), more prone to illustrate from personal exi>eri-ence, less matterr-of-fact.
3. V/ere more likely to intrude personal points of view.
4. Had more flexibility or elasticity of style.
5. Wrote simpler and more legible hands.

Palestine Crop
Reported Satisfactory
JERUSALEM.—The Department of Agriculture reported that the crop position at the end of August was satisfactory, despite the adverse weather in the early summer.
The department points out that despite the good melon crop in the northern district, the market is actually poor in the south. .
Considerable activity is being shown among the peasantry in the piurchase and hire of tractors for plowing. This is attributed to the desire for progress among the Arabs and also to the fact that village labor is now more expensive as a result of the flight of young men to the urban areas, as well as to the citrus belt, where wages are higher. Although the department's report does not say so, the latter reference is to Jewish plantations.
Very extensive preparations are now proceeding in the hilly regions for the cultivation of fruit trees and vineyards. A comparatively small are'a will be planted with citrus during the coming season, however.
12-piece Band and Floor Show at the B.B. Yom Kippur Dance
In 1929 the Western Wall, the renmant of the Temple, was desecrated in Jerusalem. 'The ancient stones were stripped of their "petitions" which Jews placed in their crevices. The book of Psalms was trampled on, cliunsy officials, whether intentionally or not, gravely offended the national honor of the Jew.
A cable is flashed to His Majesty: "King My Sire, Thy servants have trampled the Psalms which thy forefathers have always kept before their eyes, and which they translated with isuch devotion. Thy servants have thrown into the dust at the Temple these Psalms. Has this been done in thy name?" The sender of the telegram is the Chief Rabbi of Palestine. Naively but sincerely he believes that the King of the Jews, King George, will, not less than himself, be outraged by this national dishonor.
