Between Ourselves
CABIP TIBffi IS WONDEBFUL,
especiaUy when the-weatherman is, on your side • . . And doubly so when it's Visitors' Day . . . That's what it was last Sunday out at Cauip Hatikvah, and after a week of o^utdobr fun the 50-odd campers were good and ready for their moms and pops, uncles and aunts, and what have you . . . The visitors came and the campers ,conq[uered.-That was just about the size of it ... Over 100 visitors came out to camp to patronize the Parking Lot and Befres'iment Booth, specially set up by the campers forthe occasion, and to be highly edified by the concert put on by the youngsters . . . From these three projects the campers netter $S3.95 for their own special JNF drive . . .and in between all this the Campers Nine, captained by Tommj; Frey, of Seattle, found time (and r^^m-y of energy) to beat the Parents/Aggre. gation, captained by Leon Messier, at «• gr^me of softbaU,
THE BEAL NEWS about the camp season, however, is that Camp Hatlkyah will definitely be open another two weeks . . ; So all those youngsters (age 9 to 15) who have been wishing themselves there in the past two weeks should get packed pronto and be down at the Center promptly at 9 a.m. this Sunday, froni where all roads lead direct to

TOO MANY EXCEPTIONS —
That's how the situation appears at this point in regard to the Community Council's recent ruling to tighten up on money-raising affairs by withholding publicity from unendorsed functioms .: ; . Ever y group thinks that for one reason or another they can be excepted from the ruling ... For example, Mrs. licah Besnick thinks that the annual aid to Israel tea sponsored by the wives of professional men (set this year for August 30, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Greehberg) doesn't heed endorsation . . . But according to the best interpretation we can get, any naoney-raising affair being publicly proclaimed should have endorsation . . ; And the whole idea again is simply to avoid conflicting date and regulate the flow of affairs . . . It is not intended to stop any group from running a money-raising affair . . . What remains to be done is for the method of endorsation to be simplified so that clearance -vyith the Community Center will constitute endorsation in most cases . . .And of course every group has to recognize that it is in their best interest to clear the date of every public affair.

ENTHUSIASM :
The entire Israel press, except the Communist newspaper Kol Haara and -Mapam's Al Hamishmar welcomed the government's decision. Very little enthusiasm was, however displayed—even by those newspapers' which justified' the government's decision^ They pointed out that the Israel (government could not have acted differently because oif Israel's membership in the Uhitcd Nations, and assserted that Israel's national interests compelled jthe government to take this deci-jsion. barest of necessities in living amenities. The quarters of the insLrried families that • I' saw were small hut-like rooms. They were decored •with the simplest of furnishings; a bed, a dusty old rug, a fruit box covered with a linen cloth utilized as a library case, and perhaps a small radio or gramophone.' Personal property in the form of radios, gramophones and books are frowned upon in principle, but such slight ideological discrepancies are always overlooked.
Some of the newly-arrived married families lived in cramped tent quarters. The unmarried menabers are assigned to barrack-like dornii-tories thatare partitioned into separate rooms, each housing from 4 to 5 kibbutznicks. Yet there w'as a certain peaceful contentment and! satisfaction derived from a job that is of such vital importance in the upbuilding of the country.
Another quality which endears Kibbutz life to'its individual members is the existence of a camerad-erie and a loyalty that often trans-cents' even family affection. The sorrow of one is the sorrow of all, and the joy of one is shared by* all, £!ach kibbutz is a family in its own right. The slightest occasion "warrants celebration and Kelta was soon' to have-good cause for festivity. Three of the ?/narriCid women were expecting babies when I'was there. ■
