When local artist and teacher
Mona Goldman was in New York last; month with the Jewish Comr munity Centre Art Tour, she was offered a solo show in a mid-town Gallery . . . So now Mbna is planning to lead another tour for the Centre which will coincide with the opening of her show in New York in early April 1979.
^ In this season of degrees comes a bit of a different story from England . . , When Rabbi Mordechai Berkovitch • received^ a university degree recently the convocation was on a Saturday. Hence the ingenious young rabbi obtained special permission to park his trailer under cover'right beside the hall in which the degree ceremony was to be held. He did so, of course, in order not to transgress Shabbat either by travelling pr. carrying ... It was thus that the Friday before Rabbi Berkovitch, his vi^e and threechildren'arri^ in their .camper, lit their Sabbath candles, had Erev Shabbat dinner and davened... . The next afternoon they were all able to be present for the Shabbat B.A., thanks to the , corpperation and goodwill of the Greater; London Council which had granted them permission to camp in : a somewhat unusual spot ^

Anid yet another instructive story comes out of Israel... Anyone who ,
observes kashrut does not have to worry if invited to the home of the British Ambassador in Israel. . . It seems that John Mason, whb is reported to be a lively and well-informed diplomat, discovered early on that problems arose when kosher food was needed for many guests. So he and his wife decided that the best solution would be if their home became entirely kosher . . "It worked out perfectly,'* Mason explained recently to a visitor,Vahd we are enjoying our kosher food. We can entertain anyone in our home without any problems.**
ANNUAL SUMMER PUBLICATION SCHEDULE
When one local wag heard this tale of the gentile diplomat with the kosher kitchen; he remarked: "such an enlightened, intelligent approach — and it was not a case of Jewish brains figuring out how to stop discrimination against other Jews!**

SLEPAK JAILED FOR MOSCOW DEMONSTRATION
LONDON— A veteran Moscow refusenik and his wife staged an hour-long demonstration in Moscow recently; the first of its kind in the Soviet capital
Vladimir Slepak, SO, an electrical engineer, and^ his wife, Maria, barricaded the front door of their eigth^floor Gorki apartment and then stood on the balcony holding up a banner reading: ^Let us out to our son in Israel.** ,
A hostile crowd of several hundred people gathered in the street vbelow^abusing and jeering at them, while a woman from the apartment above poured hot .water onto them.
At the same time, a man oh the floor above tried unsuccessfully to remove the banner, using a long pole. The police brought up a fire engine and also tri^ to remove the banner, but they too, were unsuc^ ces^ful.^ . . >^ '
Finally, an hour later, the police
managed to^ enter the barricaded apartment. They pulled Mr. and Mrs. Slepak inside and tore up the banner. Later, the coupljswere taken to the.Butyrki prison. Mrs; Slepak was released later but her husband was reported still detained.
Mr. a^d Mrs. Slepak have been told that they will be charged with '^malicious hooliganism,^ which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment.
Ida Nudel,v another prominent refusenik, may face a similar charge after staging a similar demonstration.
