MIAMI BEACH —
Muimi Beach's reputation pis the world's vaca-tionland has been maintained over the years mainly because of the many, and diverse, things to see and do which it offers the visitor.
Here are lodgings for more than 150,000 visitors in 352 hotels and 2,599 apartment buildings, all within a few minutes of o c e a n beaches, golf courses, smart shops, res^ taurants (more than 300 and of every style cuisine)^ deep-sea fishing, nightclubs and numerous spectators' sports ranging from year-round horse and greyhound racing to exciting pro football (of the world-champion Dolphins), basketball, baseball and jai alai depending on the season.
Minutes away are a variety of sightseeing attractions starring monkeys, rare birds, flowers, dolphins, reptiles and the Everglades National Park.
in winter Miami Qeach bases its appeal on a subtropical climate that
permits outdoor diversions such as swimming, tennis and golf. In summer the great attraction is that many of the same luxuries are available, as in winter, but at low cost although climate also has its appeal in that heat waves in the high 90's are unknown thanks to the cooling breezes iand surrounding waters.
Miami Beach is built on a series of islands one to three miles off the mainland, with Biscayne Bay separating this city from Miami on the west and the broad, blue Atlantic irtretching away eastward. Train and plane passengers disembark on the mainland, arriving here by bus oi- automobile across one of the five causeways spanning the bay.
That the air and rail terminals are across the. bay. along with all other industrial activity, pleases the officials of this resort capital devoted completely to the care and comfort of visitors.
This maintains what al-. ways is one of the first impressions a stranger receives in Miami Beach — the sparkling cleanliness of the city. Smoke, smog and dust are pleasingly absent, as also are most of the pollens that cause hay fever. Many people come her in summer to escape the latter.
Miami Beath %as founded in 1915. designed from the start as a vacation playland. It has certainly achieved this goal.
JERUSALEM —
You've probably seen-the official sights of Jerusalem—^ the grandiose and awesome, the inspuing and consoling — ringing with august names and sanctified above any other city.
But in order to really know this magnificent city, visit the market to meet her, so to speak, at her most human, most stimulating level.—
Not the bland, hygenic supermarkets which are no different here from anywhere else — but the Mahane Yehuda Market, where smells are luscious, the merchants colorfiil, and the assortment of wares available fantastic.
At 6 a.m. the market at Mahane Yehuda' (hereinafter referred to as the "shouk." Hebrew for market; in Arabic it's "souk"), is already humming. Turbulent, fascinating, untidy, crammed and crowded — the shouk is alive with sights and sounds. Sometimes the going is smooth and sometimes it isn't, h would be a sad market without crowds, without people jostling you on the narrow sidewalks or people in a hurry.
As you turn the comer of Kol Israel Haverim Street, opposite Dayidka Square, the aroma of freshly baked pitta (a fiat, round, hollow bread which, when filled with cooked meat and spiby balls of ground chickpeas, plus vegetables, is food fit for a king — or president), wafts towards your quivering nostrils and draws you to its source. For about 35 agorot (less than six cents), you buy a pitta, and thus fortified, set out to dis-
cover the shouk, nibbling pitta as you go.
Your eyes are drawn to the long lines of outdoor display tables literally spilling over with wares. These are a joy to behold for the variety, color and fragrance. Great bowls of pickles, peppers, gambas, eggplants. cabbages, green and black olives and j a r s of tempting "kha-reef." — a rich tomato paste appetizingly mixed with herbs — but beware! these mouth-watering delicacies can also be eye-watering, and may be more pungently spicy than the Western tongue can bear.
Jaffa Street was the first street built outside the Old Oty walls (in the late 1880's), and Jews originating from Middle Eastern and North African coun-: tries first settled at the southern end of the road, naming the area Mahane Yehuda ("Camp of Ju-dah"). Since the first need of any new community is food, these enterprising people set up a "shopping centre. *' primarily for their own use. stocking the shelves with the basic commodities. As their population ; increased, more and more shops and stalls were opened, until it became so crowded that now one hardly knows where one stall begins and another ends. As new areas were' settled, the fame of the market at Mahane Yehuda brought the newcomers to the old-timers for their purchases, and now, too, residents of all parts of Jerusalem make their way to that shouk for their weekly shopping. .
Shouk-shopping is a must for every'visitor to

Israel. Here, you'll rub shoulders with fellow-tourists from all parts of the world, but most important; you'll get to
know the Israeli — his patience, his opinion, his ways of persuasion as well as his temperament, education and. if all doesn't go
well, his earthy vocabulary. For bargaining still goes on; an agora (the Israeli "penny") saved is an agora earned, here, too.
