MONTREAL MEETINGS
*Dr. Allan L. Sherwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sherwin, 4680 Kensington Avenue, has been named the recipient of a Markle Scholarship, including a $30,000 grant. One of two Canadians to be so honored, Dr. Sherwin was interviewed for three days at a club near Ottawa when about a dozen candidates were given a close look by men from the United States and Canada in fields unrelated to medicine. Prospective Markle Scholars may not apply on their own for this scholarship. They must be recommended by a medical school to the authorities, and then they are scrutinized for the final decision. Dr. Sherwin is at present carrying on research on the allergic aspects of diseases of the nervous system. The Markle Award of $30,000 goes to McGill University Faculty of Medicine, to supplement Dr. Sherwin's program of research. A former pupil of West Hill High School and a graduate of Montreal West High School, Allan Sherwin graduated from McGill with a Bachelor of Science degree, and first class honors in biochemistry, in 1953; and in medicine from McGill in 1957. He trained in neurology at the Mont-
real Neurological Institute and in Immuno-Chemistrv at the Division of Immuno-Chemistry and Allergy Research of the Royal Victoria Hospital, in Montreal.
