louis Glazan passes in Victoria
Louis Glazan passed away in Victoria on June 13. He was 7 years of age.
Born in Spokane, Wash., he moved to Victoria and has been a resident there since 1910. He was a past president of the Gyro club; a member of Confederation Lodge No. 116, AF and AM, B.C.R and, Royal Arch Masons. He served overseas with the 88th Battalion in 1914 and later with the 7th Battalion, and in World War Two with the Veterans* Guard.
He is survived by his wife. Alma Beatrice, at home; and nieces and nephews in Seattle.
Funeral services were held on June 14 and interment followed at the Jewish cemetery, Victoria.

HILLSIDE, N.J.—Dfr. Joseph H. Cooper, a research chemist with E. I. du Pont de Nemours, Inc., for more than 30 years, died in New York Hospital. He was 55 years old;
Born in Oyen, Alberta» Dr. Cooper received a B,S. degree from the Universily of Alberta in Canada and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. He specialized in patent work. ;
He was a vice-president of the Labor Zionist Organization of America and a member of its central committee. He was a founder of Beth Yelid Jewish Cultural Centre in iEssex County and a former trustee of the county VJewi^'Education association.

and communal awareness, she was active in Hadassah and Pioneer Women in Edmonton, and also assumed an active role and became well known in communal work in Vancouver. She was a member of the Ben Zvi chapter of Hadassah and a member of Schara Tzedeck synagogue.
She was predeceased by her husband. Jack, in 1945, and is survived by a son, Benjamin, of Vancouver.
Funeral services were held in Edmonton, Alberta, on May 7, and burial was in the Jewish cemetery there, near her late husband.

Mrs. Edith Lailda buried in
Mrs. Edith Landa died on May 6 iii the Vancouver General hospital after a lengthy illnessi She was 59.
Arriving in Canada in 1929 as a young girl from Nikaliec, Russia, she worked briefly in Winnipeg. After her marriage to Jack Landa, they moved to Alberta in 1935, where she resided chiefly in Edmonton. She took up residence in Vancouver in 1954.
Regarded as personifying the qualities of family responsibility

An internationally-khown fencing champion, Peter Bakonyi, has volunteered to assisir in pre-; paration of Gamp Miriam sports and athletic program this summer. He will assist Mike Peled, camp, athletic director, in designing an individualized sports program.
Mr. Bakonyi is finance manager of the: real estate division for Canada Permanent Ttust Company. He holds a law degree obtained in 1956 from Eotvos Loraht, Budapest. He was a member of the school's fencing team which won ttie Fencing Championship of Budapest in 1955.
Bakonyi has been Canadian fencing champion for 1959, 1960, 1961, 1967 and 1968. He represented Canada at Pan Ameri-can Games in 1963 which were held in Brazil and last summer's 1967 games in Winnipeg. He was also a member of the Canadian team to the British Empire Games in Perth, Australia, in 1962 and the 1966 Jamaica Games. Mr. Bakonyi won a silver medal at the 1966 games and a bronze medal at the Australian games.
He won a silver medal at the Maccabiah Games in 1962 in Tel Aviv and also represented Canada at the 1966 Games.
Mr. Bakonyi is married and has two children.
Peretz school elects officers
Closing general meeting of the 1967-68 season of the Vancouver Peretz school took place Tuesday, June 11, when election cf incoming officers took place.

Mr. Lipsky, 26, is co-ordinator of employer development with the local Canada Manpower office. He is the son of Mrs. Rae Lipsky, and the late Irving Lip-slqr, a well known communal leader and worker for numerous communal causes.
