HalfU, (JCNS) - Druse workmen building a roadbe-'lieve that skeletons found in a cave on the slopes of Mount Hermon above their village of Majdal Shams belong to
Jews who were killed during the troubles between Drnse and Christians at the beginning of the century.
The workmen said that they
knew the cave as "the tomb of the Jews". It Is believed that the Jews Uving in the basin of the LitaS River abandoned their setUement at the time of the troubles.

MAYOR OPPOSES JEWISH GROUP
Jerusalem, (JCNS) - Some eighty Jews who intend settling in the West Bank town of Hebron - they have taken up residence in the Park Hotel while they find permanent quarters - have been told by the Minister ofReligious Affairs, Dr. Z. Warhaftig, that the Cabinet wiU never order them to leave "the city of the Patriarchs".
Opposition to Jewish set-ttement is beliig'Ied by the Mayor of Hebron, SheikhMo-hammed Jabari, who had a bitter meeting lastweekwith the intending settlers. Reports of that confronation are contradictory, with the Jewish groupcla^ing that themeet&g began quietly if not cordiaUy, butthendeter-iorated when the mayor accused them of making "Hit^ lerite" threats.
ANGRY REACTION
This brought an angry reaction from the settlers who demanded thiat he apologize. He refused and the mutual abuse continued until - it is claimed - the representative of the Military Government who was present intervened and advised them to leave. "This we did", said one, "without a'Shalom'."
Mayor Jabri claims that the Jews behaved aggressively from the moment that the meeting opened. "I have worked under Turks, British and Jordan^hs", he declared, "none behaved like these people.'^
He repeated his argument that he was opposed to Jewish settlement because tlM newcomers mi^t be subject to EI Fatah attacks for which the whole town would beheld responsible.
While the Labour Minister, Mr. Yigal Allon, is openly encouraging the Hebron settlers and Herat leaders are
quietly lending their support the Defence Minister, Mr. Moshe Dayan, has not made Us positionknownbutis presumably opposed to anything which mightdisturb the peace and quiet of fbe West Bank.
YOUTH SUPPORT
Meanwhile, a Jerusalem lawyer has ^titioned the Prime Minister, Mr. Levi Eshkol, as weU as Mr^ Dayan
for the return of Jewish property and land in Hebrcn vdilch was ahandoned after the Arab massacre of the Jews in 1929. Tbelandtotals some 200 acres.
The Minister replied that this matter must await the general setttemest Of Jewish -Arab property (piestoQs.
