We must concede that things are p'cking up although we havt not been deluged by a torrent of artides from the various'ci!ntres.
Last \veek we received a short item from Toronto that was just patked with news and possibilities and we certainly hope. we \vil| receive news on iuther developments there and in 4>ther centtes.
The Toronto lassies and lads are again anx'ous to get thelr square dancing going along with other club acttvities. Last season apparently square a^ncing was the rage in Toronto and because of it a large group ofyoung people congregated at the hali on Sunda;; evenings to try^a hand kt the reels and .what have you in square: dancing. We certainly hope that the rage catches on again.
Quite frankly, we are happy to hear that there is interest In square dancing, although mind you even a group interested in: rock 'n' roll would be we1coine if it means that activities can be begun in that way. However, despite our limited knowledge of music nd dancing, we are a firm believer that square dancing is a few rungs higher on the cultural ladder and will stay with us long after Elvis , has been forgotten. After ali, it has been with us for centuried and is considered real folk culture- .
In a wai/ it is a shame that square dancing has not flourished < continuously. We can remember that not too many y^ars back, cty folk regarded it as something that belonged to the country folk and wouId have no part of it. Even yet there are many places where it is not recognized.
. Here in Sudbury square dancing has been quite the fad for a number of years and i^ is enjoying ever wder support with nev groups springing up.all over the place.
.'\s a matter of fact the Alerts Athletic Club is ser'ousIy consider- mg inilialing square dancing at the Finnish Hall. Advocates of the ait feel that many present and former Alerts memberswould be interested in ha\ing square dancing one evening a week. .
If enough people sign''fy such a desire, it become a reality. 'If there are enough interested people, music and a caller can be found for the old hoe-down or is that square dancing lingo? The main thing now is that everybody interested speaks his or her piece.
A number of times we have mentioned the fact that Port Arthur, was granted the honor of sponsoring the next combined fesrvaland" we were very happy about the decision because they were supposed to have it last summer until some very difficult problems forced them to pass on the honor to Sudbury.' , '
We_^ have been anxiously waiting for some words on the preli- minary preparations so that we could-get something to say about the coming festival, but not a thing yet. '
Itsuddenly 6ccur{<ed to us that perhaps something has come tip and they might not be able to hold the festival.v Horrors! But that can't be, so Jefs have a word on whats going on.
VVe might even add a theat that if Port Arthur doesn't speak up soon, we're going, on a weekend visit to the Lakehead and sponge a few meals off our friends. The way we consume food and the nasty remarks we make, would make it a lot easier on our friends
if they wrote a few Iines and asked us to delay our v'sit until next summer when they will be able to billet other guests in thelr homes and leave yours truly under the stars at Isku Park.

I better write to the Vapaus now, since I haven't written for a long time. I saw Seta*s letter, he said he hasn't been getting many letters,, so I got busy and started to write.
Hallowe'en has come and gone. I went gathering apples on Hallo- we'en night. We went to pActl- cally ali ,the houses in town. It was my flrst time too. We got quite a few apples and I sure. had f un. But I didn't dress up because it was too cold. I just wore a mask.
We also had a HaIlowe'en party in our room. I dressed up;as a gypsy, but I'didn't win a prize. Joan Stammen won the prlze. It was a box of chocolates. We played games and we had lunch.
Weil, there ha8n't been any snow here yet. In some way8 I would Uke to have 8now.
My teacher, Miss IVerblskir was sick ali last week. She missed Hal- lowe'en and every thing. We sure missed her. One of'the other teac* hers in room'3 taught us. Bye for now.
