tfurfdd Hoi N-liiton 2—0
jalkapallomaaottehissa
Moskova. — Turkin jalkapallo-
maajoukkue voitti numeroin 2—0
Neuvostoliiton: joukkueen sunnun
taina Moskovassa Lenin-stadionilla
pelatussa ottelussa. Maalit tekivät
turkkilaisten hyökkääjä Ogyn ja
Nevzat.
Ensimmäisen MM-kilpailujen jäi
keeri pelaamansa ottelun Neuvosto-
liiton joukkue pelasi huomattavasti
muutetussa kokoonpanossa. Isännät
olivat kentällä ylivoimaisia, mutta
- hyvin aloitetut hyökkäykset pysäh-
tyivät Turkin joukkueen rangaistus-
alueelle.
* Turkkilaiset esittivät hyvää puo-
lustuspeliä ja ^ heidän maalivahtin-
sa pelasi moitteettomasti; molem-
mat turkin maalit olivat neuvosto-
puolustajien'erehdysten tulosta.

SalonikasSa
Helsinki, — Suomi pelasi hienon
ottelun Salonikissa. Kreikka tunne-
taan maana,: jota on vaikea voittaa
sen omalla kentällä. 2—1 häviö on
tosin häviö, mutta antoi vakuutta-
van näytteen siitä, että Suomi on
mennyt jalkapalloilussaan tämän
kesän aikana pitkän harppauksen
eteenpäin.
Kansallisella rintamalla: kamp-
pailtiin sunnuntaina vain suomen-
sarjatasolla. Putoamistaistelut sävyt
tivät näitäkin otteluja, ja kaikissa
lohkoissa vältyttiin uusinnoilta. Mes-
taruussarjaan nousijat olivat selvin-
neet jo aiemmilla kinerroksilla.
Ensi vuoden pääsarjaan pääsivät:
Upon Pallo itä-, Ano IFK länsi ja
Kokkolan Pallo-Veikot pohjoisloh-
kosta.

pysyttelivät jokseenkin vaatimatto-
mina, ja vain meksikolaiset pystyi-
vät hätyyttelemään kansallisia en-
nätyksiään. :■■ .. ;
Suomalainen Eila Pyrhönen si-
joittui kuudenneksi naisten 200
metrin perhosuinnissa Mexicon esi-
kisojen jatkuessa perpantaina. Mat-
kan voitti itäsaksalainen Helga
Lindher ajalla 2.24,9 ennen amerik-
kalaisia Claudia Kolbina,. joka sai
ajari 2.36,7.' Pyrhösen aika oli 2.49.
Uintilajien menestyksellisimmäk-
si maaksi kohosi perjantaina USA,
joka korjasi neljä kultamitalia.
Ranska, joka jo edellisenä päivänä
oli saavuttanut kaksi voittoa, osoitti
nytkin vaarallisuutensa viemällä
kolme kultamitalia.

South Porcupine. — Syksyinen
tervehdys täältä Eteläpäästä; Saint
. me jo vähän maistaa talven tuntu-
maa, sillä viikon vaihteen aikana
tuli jo lunta joka tietenkin menee
saman tien, vaikka elämmekin mel-
ko myöhäisessä syksyssä. Mutta "vä
rit" on nähty ja lisää tulee lähi-
aikoina. Se on vakituinen elämän
meno näillä leveysasteilla.
Viime viikolla oK lehdessä se
Star Clubin osakkeenomistajien il-
moitus, jossa sanottiin; etta yleinen
kokous pidetään tk\ 27 pnä joka on
ensi viikolla torstaina. Kokous on
liikkeen omassa huoneistossa alkaen
kello 7.30 illalla. Tämän panefi tä-
hän ikään kuin muistutukseksi, että
jokainen osakkeenomistaja olisi
ajallaan paikalla.
Tässä kokouksessa tulee taas esil-
le liikehuoneiston vuokrausasiat,
koska ostajaa ei ole ilmaantunut täi-;
le laitokselle.
Yleisesti' puhuen tämä talo on
halpa nykypäivien hinnaksi, joten
siinä olisi mahdollisuus tehdä itsel-
leen melko hyvä toimeentulo sel-
laisilla henkilöillä, jotka olisivat
vähän "kuusalla" liiketoimista. Ja
samalla tekisivät työtä oman liik-
keensä hyväksi. Se pieni velka mitä
siitä koituisi vähempivaraiselle os-
tajalle ei merkitse mitään nykyai-
kana, jolloin velat otetaan pois si-
sääntuloverotuksessa. Täällä olisi
ehkä montakin, jotka ostaisivat tuon
laitoksen, mutta heidän ikänsä on
jo kääntynyt sille pahemmalle puo-
len, eivätkä he näin ollen viitsi
vaivautua. .
Mutta paikkakunnan ulkopuolella
asuvien kannattaa tätä kysymystä
harkita joko vuokrauksen tai oston
suhteen.
Kyllä nämä liikemiehet ovat ta-
vanneet tavaransa saada myytyä,
mutta tänä syksynä on tullut uusi
myyntiartikkeli, Color TV, eli vä-
rillinen televisio, miksi sitä oikein
kutsutaan. Siliä on ollut huono ky-
syntä, vaikka elokuussa alkoi väri-
kuvien esittäminen täkäläiseltä TV
asemalta, niin vastaanottimia on
myyty vain alle kolmekymmentä.
Se tietenkin johtuu hintansa puoles-
ta, koska halvimmat ovat siinä 800
dollarin nurkilla ja kalleimmat
1,200 paikoille asetettuna, joten pie-
nipalkkaiset kaivosmiehet eivät tai-
da pystyä niitä ostamaan.
Vaikka kyllä täällä on ollut-
jaon vieläkin paremplpalkkaisia työ
Iäisiä, mutta kuitenkaan he eivät ole
innostuneet väri TV:hin.

FINAL PHASE
It hardly seems possible that so
much time has passed since the last
time I wrote — a complete change
of season from summer to f ali.
There is no doubt that auautmn is
here, at least here in Montreal.
The Ieaves have ali changed colöur
and there seems to be twice as
many on the ground as are left on
the trees. Winter coats are a conv
mon sight — I hate to think what
we'Il do when Winter reälly comes.
In spite of the cold weather, if
I elose my eyes ; and think real
hard, I can still feel the cosy
warmth of the sun just äs it felt
back at Kisakeskus — during the
rare times we had to get out and
enjoy it'. Don't get me wr'ong, that
wasn't meant as a complaint. What
time we did have off was -during
the best part of the day, namely
at noon. The lake was there to go
swimming — there was privacy. to
sit out and take sun, or nap, or
what have you. Even one- of Our
lectures was given out on the rocks
so that we could sit around taking
notes in our "scanties". We also.

torstaina avaruuteen kaksi keino-
tekoista satelliittia, joista yhden sa-

että Varsovan liiton sekä Kuuban
ja Mongolian johtohenkilöt olivat
seuraamassa näiden satelliittien
avaruuteen lähettämistä.
Useiden tuntien väliajoin tapah-

Neuvostoliiton avaruusasemalta,
Aasiasta.
Ensin lähetetty oli No. 130 kos-

onlooker, but what was a primitive
dance class taught by one of top
teachers in Finland. So; we really
had no great problem as far as
missing out on the sun was con-
«erned.
I guess I'm gettingya bit ahead
of myself again. Lefs go back a bit
•— to lefs say when we arrived at
JCuovila station, - bag and baggage
eager and willing (and maybe just
a litt.le nervous) to get to. work.
We had already been warned by
Riiitta Kaasinen that we might as
well. prepare for an hour's hike
from the station by foot.. As you
khow, Riitta attended a course last
summer, and in spite of the fact
that she is a born kidder, we were
a bit skeptical that perhaps this
time she wasn't pulling our leg.'
The last time she had kidded about
people who never get airsick always
having a "first time," she proved to
be absolately correct. So, as we
embarked and were greeted by
Helvi Puukko, we ali breathed a
sigh of relief when we heard men-
tion of a station <vagon which was
expected momentarily. It didn't last
hovvever when we were informed
that the station wagon was rather
small — and besides it wasn't a
station vvagon at ali but a pick-up
wagon. With a rather pathetic look
at our very unappropriate walking
shoes, and the prospectof an hour's
walk along a rather rickety road,
we were ali set to make the pil-
grimage. I guess Helvi also took a
good look at our unsuitable hiking
gear, or maybe it was her constant
concern for our welfare as Canadian
visitors, but to our relief she in-
formed us the driver would make
two trips and take us as well as
our gear. Thank heavens for that
—-.. what a walk it was. I must ad-
mit, the gals who did make the trek
did so quite willingly. Most of them
had done it before and were-pre-
pared — and actually the scenery
was lovely. The road twisted in
and around with trees and fields on
both sides and the odd farmhouse
vvhich we found afterwards were
ali part of Kisakeskus. When we
finally' arrived at Kisakeskus and
stepped out of the pick-up, it near-
ly took our breath away. What an
absolutely beautiful spot. There
was a very -large building in the
centre which housed the gymna-
siums, diessing rooms, diding hali,
lounge hali and kitchens as well
as the lecture room and offices;
Half way up the high hill was a
building built on a Swiss chalet
theme, and higher up another.
These we were informed were the
living quarters — our home for
next little vvhile. Beyond this was
another large building which vvere
the living quarters for the directors
and staff of Kisakeskus, and furth-
er yet was the most beautifully
kept track I have ever seen. After
much lugging of suitcases (assisted
I must admit by Lars^ the adonis of
Kisakeskus — and also its director
Ijnust say) we were settled in our
quarters. Two girls were assigned
to each room, in which there were
two beds, a suitcase stand, closet
and a table. Clean Unen and bedd-
ing were supplied — there was
even a rug on the floor. Each "talo"
was equipped with a washroom
euipped with about 8 sinks, a toilet,
a kitchenette with stove and sink
(cups and coffeepots too), and a
drying room heated by pipes in
which to dry clothes. At the back
of the "talo" (or front whichever
way one happened to stand) there
was a sittitlg room with couch and
chairs, coffee table, and big fire-
place for Iounging around. A door
opened out on to a balcony the
width of the building, a balcony
that had much use every lunch hour
a swe tried to take advantage of as
much sun as wecould.
Since this was such a beautiful
vacation spot, a number of the
lädies brought along their daugh-
ters who were also allowed to take
some of the classes, and there was
no doubt this was a very serious
busines» to these youngsters. As it
turned out, after the first night
Helvi informed the group that since
another "family" was expected that
day, ihefe was a shortage of one
room. Although they were very
much concerned that we as visitors
^hould not be inconvenienced, we
soon convinced them that there of
us in the one room was no problem
at ali. So, once again, Nancy, Salme
and I were roommates. Just one
teeny weeny problem arose —
wherever would we put the extra
bed. After much juggling around,
we finally got things arranged/quite
.sntisfactorily. We soon had it work-
ed out that whcn one was dressing
the other "two stayed put and so
forth. What fond memories we have
of that room — it was sort of home
base for our gals. Many .an evening
we flopped down on the beds, ab-
solutely exhausted, only to be
dragged up out of dtir lethargy by
a "move over, Im' coming in."
Soon the yoiceF would get a littlt
louder as the room* got fnller 'and
after much laughing and kidding
around (seriousr-talk too at times)
the old sandman would get the bet-
ter of us, and one. by one the gals
would file off to their own rooms.
The "lapset' or young'uns were al-
ways last to get feary, but even
they had their limit.
Actually, age • didn't seem to
matter on the course. There were
16 year olds ;(not including^the 10
or 12 year olds who were there;
with their mothers) right up tb
"past 40's". Even in pur own group
as I;said above we had our "lap-
set" and we 'vanhat". It became
a natural thing to check on what
the "lapset" were doing — and
many a time the cry of "who's got
a safety pin" or "Hey ma" were
heard in the corridors. When we
flopped, we flopped together too.
Like when we. after much insist-
ance from the rest of the gals,
sang a pretty mad rendition of
'This Land is our Land." VVe did a
much better job, however on "My
Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean," but
maybe that was because they knew
the words as well and joined in.
It would surely take a book to
describe ali the many experiences
we had. Meals wereall taken in a
spacious dining room where we had
our own place at our own table.
The gals at each table were re-
sponsible for serving their table
and clearing up afterwards. Believe
me, meals were no problem here.
After working strenuously for two
or three hours. everyone was so
ravenous there was. little time
wasted, It didnt take us.long to
catch on to the trick of buttering
up a couple of extra "näkkileipä"
or "eväs" as it was called to have
with our evening coffee — in fact,
unless my memory fails me, it was
Piri' Salo who tumbled us onto the
idea.
. The meal over, tables cleared, the
girls at one of the tables would
start to sing and everyone would
join in. It was such a lovely way
to finish off a meal — a dessert to
top ali desserts. Music plays such an
important part in Finlands culture.
So many of the songs have real
stories to them — and there was no
mumbling of words — everyone
kneW them ali whether there were
two verses or twenty4wo. It wasn't
long before we invested in the
little songbook on sale at the tuck
shop, and by the time we left Kisa-
keskus we were getting pretty pro
ficient at the Finnish songs our-
selves.
It would be useless to try to re-
!call events in the order they oc-
!curred — somuch took place — our
days were so full. Wakeup time was
■6:30'ish, and here again each room
liad a turn at waking up the rest
'of the. gala in the house. After
mtlch shuffling around at the sinks
and W.C.'s— and in much shorter
time than I am sure you might ex-
pect from a group of females —■ we
were dressed and down for break-
fast. We soon became accustomed
:to having bread, cold cuts and
cheese for breakfast, and let me teli
you it tasted mighty good.
The first class of the day started
at 8:00 sharp, and it was usually
a "warmup" class to limber up for
the work of the day. We soon learn-
ed that their idea of limbering up
and ours were quite different.
What a workout! By the end of the
first class, we could hardly drag
Ourselves around. Fortunately the
next class was usually a .luento or
dance class which gave us a chance
to get our sea legs again. One
never appreciates the true value of
stamina until it becomes necessary
to use it. So many times during
the course we would feel that we:
couldnt possibly take the next class
if our life depended on it. There
were times when we just wanted to
lie down and weep with exhaustion.
However when the hands of the
clock indicated time for the next
class, there we were lining up with
the rest of them. We soon learned
to take advantage of every off mo-
ment to relax • and rejuvinate for
the hard work ahead. A quick
shöwer — a dip in the lake — a
wee nap (no time to sleep, just
enough to close our eyes for a bit)
— a cup-of coffee — it's surprising
how one's system adjusts.
Classes were varied and interest-
ing, ranging from limbering-up
classes to very advanced workout
classes. We were tought gymn num-
bers as well as dance numbers suit-
able for advanced or "valio" groups
right down to little children. There
were kansantanhus; novelty dances
°.p?aratus work with balls, hoops,
clubs, etc; modern and interpre-
tive dances; Czechoslovakian gym-
nastics and folk dances; anything
and everything connected with
movement and gymnaätics. Our lec-'
tures covered a wide range of sub-
jects, a few of which were: anatomy
and physiology; the theory of. gym-
nastics and its relationship to the
human body; personal hygiene;
psychology (an excellent report
was made on this by Salme some
weeks ago); choreography: organi-
zational structure of the TUL and
SVUL; ect.AVe also saw a marvel-
lous film of the Czechoslovakian
Spartakiade with comments by Dag-
mar Paclova.
