In addition there were Chinese Canadian couples representing the folks at home in communities throughout the province. To wit: Dr. and Mrs. Fred Chu of West Vancouver; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wong of New Westminster; Mr. and Mrs. David Thorn of Nanaimo, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Joe of Vernon, and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wing: of Kamloops.
During the Royal Couple's one day sojourn in Vancouver, the ethnic groups staged a colorful pageant "Many Nation Waltz" at the Empire Stadium for a Command Performance. The verdant green lawn provided a perfect setting for the dance sequence to the tune of Strauss' "Beautiful Blue Danube" accompanied by the 50-piece RCAF band. Mrs. Gladys Guy Chong directed the Chinese group's revue. Among the Chinese dancers were: Frances Chew, Lilly Jun, Jane Wong, Myrna Tom, Edna Tom, Gwen Liin^ Ping- Gee Jackman, Pat Lee, Margaret Soon, Terry Chong, Freddy Chong, Harvey Eng, Fred John, Stan Wong and Garry Tom.
Party fare: One of the most delightful social functions in July was the cocktail and buffet smorgasbord at Capilano Gardens hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Fred Chu of West Vancouver who celebrated their crystal anniversary last month. More than 150 guests sashayed over Lions Gate Bridge to share in the fine food and help the genial couple whoop it up. ,Twas really a scintillating evening with a maximum of wine, food, good music and fun. Harvey Lowe emceed an entertainment program featuring songs and hulas by a pair of Hawaiian beauties Vivian Choy, 1957 Narcissus Queen and songstress Annette Young, both on holiday in Vancouver. For the younger guests and those who are young at heart, there was dancing to the music of Andy McNaughton's orchestra. The popularity of Lavender and Fred was amply demonstrated when many of the guests found the couple so warm, friendly and hospitable that they tarried until the band struck up God Save the Queen before heading for home.
Another glittering event in the community was the birthday party hosted by Barbara Hong to mark her arrival of full adult status―aged 21. More than 100 guests joined in the celebration and to wish Barbara many happy returns of the day as they danced and made merry at the B.C. Coast Marketing Board's auditorium where Buss
