BAN ON "INN" URGED
TAIPEH―A new controversy has developed here over the film, ''The Inn of the Sixth Happiness," starring In-grid Bergman.
Miss Bergman depicts Gladys Ayl-vvard, former London parlormaid who went to mainland China in the thirties as a missionary and later acquired Chinese citizenship.
The movie was originally to have been shot in Formosa, but because of Chinese objections to foot-binding and stead.
The government information office which is in charge of movie censorship gave a private showing of the film.
But a group of 27 persons consisting of members of the Legislative Yuan watchdog body and the national assembly came out with a statement demanding that the picture be banned in Formosa.
Said one of the lawmakers: "there are certain parts of the picture which are absolutely nonsensical, ridiculous and at variance with the facts."
The government information office has still to decide whether the picture should be banned.
But even if it decides to release it, the chance are that there will be so many cuts. The film is based on the book "The Small Women," by British writer Alan Burgess.
