artistically arranged by UBC librarian Miss Ng Tung King, head of Chinese section of the university's library. Items on display were donated or loaned by Dick Gock Seto of Trans Nation Emporium, Mrs. Wesley Thom and family and Mr. Goon Wong and family.
Key attraction was a Chinese painting demonstration by Betty Ng of the Chin esc Overseas Students Ass'n. (>ih(jr applause winning features were the COSA Chinese Folk Song group which made a most auspicious debut under the direction of William Lee. This was followed by Dr. Yi-tung Wang of UBC Dept. of Asian Studies who exhibited the technique of Chinese brush writing. The traditional Chinese lion made its appearance, manipulated by members of the Chinese Varsity Club under the direction of Ernie and Henry Quan. Another outstanding performance was contributed by the Vancouver Chinese Classical Orchestra.
Then our fellow Japanese students took over. They dazzled the crowd with Its Folk Dancing group directed by Wakakusa. Another magnificent feature was flower arranging demonstrated by Lorraine Miyagishima. The Steves-ton Kendo Club shone with their traditional sword fighting.
The program was a huge success, thanks to assistance rendered by Bob Lee of Coolite Bamboo Products and by Yip Hing Fong, a graduate of Architecture who designed the Oriental motif for this event.
Tea was served by Japanese students in kimonos and Chinese girls in cheong-sam.
International House was transformed into an Oriental bazaar with Chinese and Japanese food and pastry adorning the stalls. Male students from both of the sponsoring clubs garbed in national costumes acted as guides.
