FRANCIS NUY*)N IN "SUSIE" SAN CARLOS — Lovely France Nuyen will co-star with Robert Reed, of "The Defenders" TV fame in "The world of Susie Wong," due at the circle Star Theatre in San Carlos for a two week run. David Tihmar will direct.
Miss Nuyen will re-create her starring role as the beautiful, native Hong Kong "yum-yum girl in which she appeared on Broadway in 1958 and which brought her acting honors and nationwide recognition in the theatre.
Born in Marseilles, of a Chinese-American father and French mother, France studied art at the Marceilles Beaux Arts School and seemed headed for a career as a painter.
With an eye on the future France came to New York and in her quest for a necessary job ran into a 20th Century Fox casting official. The result was quick and sensational; she was signed for the role of Liat in Fox's screen version of "South
Pacific", and practically overnight, she was on her way to stardom.
Under a seven year contract to Fox. France appeared in many more films, including "In Love and War," "Satan Never Sleeps," opposite William Hold-en, "The Last Time I Saw Archie," co-starring with Robert Mitchum, "A Girl Named Tamiko," "Diamond Head," and others.

TAIPEI — The abbess of a Buddhist nunnery in Formosa has created an island-wide sensation by disclosing that a "nun" who has been there for the past years is a man.
Chinese newspapers gave these details: Because of the exceptional piety of "nun" Chen Jul of the Fengshan (Phoenix Mountain) temple in Chong-hua county in West Formosa, Abbess Su Ta-cheng decided the time had come to disclose "her" true identity.
