Hinaga Hot As Maikawas
M&N Squad Registers First Wirvof Season
After hectic festive celebrations such as wc have had during the past two weeks, the games played for a couple of weeks after may not always produce the highest calibre of play. Such was the case last Tuesday as the senior boys tangled it out in the first game of the new year.
Both senior tilts started off raggedly and seemed destined to end up in one of those uivbearable-to-watclv mixups> but the Harry-Maikawa scrap wound up in a rip-roaring finish that had the.fans roaring approval and also saw the first defeat> of the season for Harry's as Maikawas nosed out a 24-20 triumph.

Intermediate$ Return With Lopsided Scores
Uninteresting and .lopsided scores', featured the intermediate card this week as the squads stale, from tho long layoff once again swung into action.
The most terrific beating of all was the Marpole xnassacrc of Ernies. The town b6ys cooked up a nice fat lead of 12-4 in the first canto- but soon fell back as sharpshooting Sub Miike, going into the game from the second quarter swish-: ed in 27 points to put the game on ice for the Marpole lads 66-30. Kiyoshi Suga led Ernies with 16.
Another. sorry sight was .the-massacre ofjNipp'atsu's by-the Nomads, Nomads led by a junior star Kiyoshi Maika-wa set the Nippatsu's farther into the cellar by a 25-9 beating. Morito and Yamashita were the only ones able to score a basket for the boatbuilding crew. , ^ Taking an early lead the strong East End Monarchs breezed in easy victors over the Celtics 39-19. Smoothie Toru Tokawa enjoyed one of his "on" days and sank in 18 points.

luck M&N squad led by fast-: dribbling George Suzuki started the year off on the right leg by chalking up their first victory of the 1940-41 basketball season by trouncing 'the Intermediate All-Stars 35-28,
Led by George Hinaga, the visiting San Jose smoothie who took the place of injured Kaz Suga, Maikawas looked, like an entirely new" team, showing fleeting moments of; their last year's' form. Manager Michi Ashikawa had his men sit on ace sniper Shig Ashikawa so closely that the usual two-figure scorer could only pot two baskets and two penalty shots for a total of 6. Fiery Joe Aki-yama-on-the sick-listAvas-sore^ ly- missed by .his teammates who seemed' completely lost without Joe barking orders at them.from^guard position;-Slow Tussle
The M & N-All-Star tussle was a very poor game, and was relieved.from boredom only by the sensational sniping , of .George Suzuki who worked himself in for 15 points. The Intermediates were way off form -arid all their former smart teamwork was ? misstng. Their enthusiasm and un-equalled^spe'cd'^ver^'aiPflTercT but, their shooting was way below par. Slippery Sub Miike was the only one really going to town for the Intermediates, potting in 12 points,
