5-Pin Individual Champs Almost Sure of Crowns
The regular schedule of the Young Japanese Canadian Mixed 5'Pin Bowling League finishes tonight, drawing to a close ten weeks of play at the Commodore Bowling Alleys. >
The manner of the playoffs will be determined tonight 'When league officials and team captains meet prior to the league matches to thresh out perplexing problems. Just the three top teams in each division will compete in the playoffs, but' me thinks .there's going to be some trouble determining the top .three, ^ ,'
As the. White Cap Sea Food Trophy race hits its final lap, Fuji Chop Suey and Harry's Clothiers are perched precariously on the top step of Division One and Division Tworrespectlvely, with the remainder of the, teams bunched.closely behind. Every game, every pin will count tonight when the top teams try_ vainly to hold their coveted positions \yhile others not so well up battle in one lastbid to get into the select three.
With handicaps balancing the competition evenly, anything can still happen and a dark horse may still come into the money.
ln~uiTliv~UJuarjbonors Jack Tehara's high'single game of. (359, bowled last Thursday, wiir be the mark to beat 'if you wish to cop the high singles record, while his consistent 230 average~stilUplaces-him -as the^Kingpin'^of-the-league. *-*-
Among the fairer sex, Mary 'Shimizu is in a class all by herself and is walking away with all the honours. -At. present she leads the ladies' with a 191 average, hojds the high singles mark by bowling 297, and also a three-game aggregate mark -of 730. 'A /airly safe mark of 862 for a three game total among the men is held by Jack Koynma of Union Fish.
Asahis. Plan U.S. And Island Tours
Asahis will be travelling again on the 1st of July. It may~be their yearly 'jaunt toj Chemainus or they might takej up the offer by North Shore toj take part in the Dominion Day Celebration in North Vancou-J ver.

Manager Sandy Stein of the Union Fish ball team, received a severe jolting last weekend and the chances for the two-tune champs retiring the cup for the third time look very, very slim now. ' 'Tis rumoured that Shig Ashikawa, slugging George Suzuki and Baron Wakabayashif three mainstays of the JJnion Fish-outfi* will play no more. My Gestapo tells me that Shig, the larruping left-hander, had already left town for a lonely HttJe shingle camp, and that Suzuki and Wakabayashi Will join him over the weekend.
Alas, Sandy's head does hang "in 'g7Feir~y pififuf figure of a
mighty man who could throw
taunts and jeers further than any '
other figure on the diamond, Oh
well, he who laughs fjrst, laughs
last is the old saying.
Seriously speaking, the loss of Ashikawa, Suzuki and Wa.kabayashi 's a great blow to Union Fish. George Suzuki is the clean-up hitter and One of the most dangerous batters in the leag'ue. Baron Wakabayashi's vacancy m centre-field and-at-the-plate Will be hard to fill. All in all, Man-cjer '"SteinT'wjII "lTa"ve*nB~*KusBe up" some players mighty fast: Good ball players are terribly scarce at present Sandy, so why not put on your own moth-eaten uniform and get back info the game?
Powell Drug and T. Maikawa's are sitting pretty now and it Jock's like this year it's going to be Yuki Uno's Powell Drug's turn ~ to 'stow away the Ko Jshii Cup. . T. Maikawa 'with- no -wins- in three -start?,' will HaVe^to^KiFfHe .win column consistently now if they want to place in the money>
