Speeches of gratitude to the veterans \vere given by several prominent Isseis and G. E, Trueman. Chairman was R, Suzuki.
In bi-a opening address. Chairman Suzuki related the difficult, circurnfltaiu rs when Niseis were volunteering in early 1&45. .
If not one Nisei. hdd enJisr?<!, things would'be different in Canada today, he suggested. Citin.ff the war record ot the Japaneso A'merk'ans, Mr. Suzuki told ; of how they hail re-reived their rights because of their ^.service- to their 'country. .
SET AN EXAMPLE
."What you boys have done will bear fruit in the future. You have set an example for the ,N*sei and Sansei to follow," he said in closing.
Mr. Trueman- of the . Japanese .'.Division', urged-, the Nisei to dedicate themselves to the fight for

DREAM REALIZED
Rev. K. Shimizu, ("nited Chun h minister, said that his dream had been realized when the Nisei were finally allowed to enlist and did so, after the discriminatory policy during'most'-of- the war.
"Most people realize the ideal for which you boys enlisted. If you will co-operate, with the Issei they will back you."
. Th,e Issei Division committee expressed regret that due to the lack of accurate addressee, a number of .veterans did not receive invitations.

Nobody Seems to Know. Solution : / ;
;\Vhat does the Labor Department propose to do about the situation? Nobody seems to know.
Mes-s has been discont.imied at the hostel and the hold-outs have to buy their own food. Heat-water and electricity /is supplied free, and. there is ho rentalcharge. There; seerns to be: ,a common understanding :-anipi.ig the single ex-iiiternees that they won't ac-
cept any type of ".work. A few*: of theni; are- reported to have ^ome savings which are now/being used to buy the food for all of the IS men. Sometime^ the ex:hostel residents now in ^loose Jaw send them groceries, but this help has bee,n growing less regular.
The faniiij' groups are better off finan'cially" since members of each family go ont jo town each day to do odd. jobs, the earnings from which. are sufficient to'.pay for the family'-s fobd.-
If the authorities expect the hostellers to give in. they ..-may have to wail a lone time. Thereiseems to me even a possibility ihat the single, men's group may. .as a' last resort/stage _a hunger strike rather than give in and aeree .to go self-^.uppoi-ting elsewhere, .;.'! can't see a single solution 'o the problem. The government- so" far has avoided tisin.c -fbn-e. T!i'"-sit-downers believe sincerely" -that
. \\hat they are doinc is right.
