Now that the baseball season is all wrapped up with the deflating of the Bums from.Brooklyn 15y the Yankees, we \nn look forward- to the hockey season. Hamilton is already on its way in organizing a Nisei hockey loop while Toronto puck enthusiasts are still dormant. Maybe it's' too ambitious but we'd like to see a Nisei hockey tournament between teams from Toronto, Hay mil ton/Montreal, or Port Arthur. If the. basketball bigwigs hold tournaments, why not hockey?
But the retarding factor to that idea is the lack of ice facilities. The Nisei loop in Toronto last year operated under very rugged .conditions, scheduling its. games in the early hours of the morning. Rental costs for indoor rinks, are exorbitant too.
In high.school football here, the rosters of some of the schools include a few Nisei football players. .Bill Shintani, burly halfback of Central Technical School, is one of the. mainstays of his team. In the first game against Western Tech. Bill distinguished himself by tallying all of his team's points in the 9-0 win. Bill plunged over for a touchdown and added a field goal later in the game.'Incidentally, there is also a Chinese-Canadian on the Tech backfield called Alan Wong.
The San Francisco Seals open their barnstorming series in Japan on October 15 against.the Tokyo Giants. They expect to .piny before a total of 700.000 customers in their 11 games this month. That figure is more than 200.000 better than they drew for 03games this vear at Seals Stadium in San. Francisco..--..'
