Niseis Start Potato Chips Plant in Japan
TOKYO To get in the chips, three American army veterans, including two Nisei, recently introduced the -potato chip to Ja* pan. They have set up the first potato chip plant in Japan in Tokyo. '
The. three .Americans;, Albert Nakazawa of Cincinnati, Henry Shimojima of Chicago and E. A. \Vatiamaker of Seattle, conceived the idea of a potato chip factory last year after having.completed service in the U.S. Army and their contracts as Department of Army civilians.
American-made chips cannot be transported to .Japan efficiently since it can not be kept fresh beyond two weeks.
Their plant, which has a capacity of 000 pounds a day, uses California potatoes and American vegetable oil.
