The engagement of Miss Dorothy Cohen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cohen, Wildertonl Avenue, to Gilbert Louis Shohaan, son of Rabbi and Mrs. J. B. Shoham, of Baltimore, Md., was celebrated at a party at the home of Mrs. S. Thau, of New York, great-aunt of the bride-elect. Fitcy Quests, rrlern-bers of the immediate family, were present, with Rabbi and Mrs. Shoham, parents of the groom-elect, of Baltimore; and1 Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cohen, parents of the bride-elect. Roses and carnations were used to decorate. The marriage takes place on> January 8, at Young Israel Synagogue.

Mrs. Pearl received in a navy-blue crepe dress, with white pique trimming, and a corsage of sweet peas; and Mrs. Gilbert wore a two-piece navy blue crepe dress, trimmed with white pique, and corsage of sweet peas. Miss Shapiro, the bride-elect, wore a navy-blue suit, the jacket designed in white pyrn strip, with a navy-blue skirt, white straw picture hat, trimmed with navy-blue velvet ribbon, and a corsage of white carnations. Mrs. H. Shapiro, mother of the bride-elect, wore a two piece navy-blue suit, with a white straw hat. Mrs. M. Feldgaier, mother of the groom-elect, wore a silk print dress, with a white straw hat.
Miss Esther Appel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Appel, St. Urbain Street, whose marriage to Eddy Laohman, son of Mr. amdj Mrs. V. Lachman, Mountain Sights Avenue, takes place on June 17, at Young Israel Synagogue, was entertained at a linen shower at the Bucharest, by: Mrs. Lachmaro, mother of the groom-elect; and Mrs. I. Climan, Trans Island Avenue. Mrs. Lachman wore a navy-blue crepe dress, having a high, neckline and pointed collar, with satin trimming otm the dress, and a slim skirt; also a navy-blue straw bat, and corsage of pink roses. Mrs. Climan wore a taupe crepe dress, cut with a high neckline, and slim skirt; also a white straw hat, and) corsage of Talisman roses. Mrs. Appel, mother of the bride-elect, wore a navy-blue crepe dress, designed with high .neckline and slim skirt, with pearl bead accessories, a white straw bat, and corsage of pink roses. Miss Appel, the bride-elect, wore a navy-blue crepe dress, having a white collar, crocheted with navy-blue, with long sleeves, and a slim skirt; also a white straw bat, trimmed with blue velvet; and a corsage of gardenias. Roses, tulips, and snapdragons were combined for the table centrepiece. About one hundred and sixty-five guests were present.

Miss Evelyn Karovitch, the honoree, wore a navy-blue sheer nylon marquisette dress, designed with heart-shaped neckline and full skirt, with a navy-blue and white straw hat, navy-blue accessories, and a white orchid corsage. RARE ITEMS ARE AT MUSEUM IN N. Y.
The fourbh anniversary of the founding of the Jewish Museum of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America was celebrated with the opening of a special loan exhibition of Jewish ceremonial objects and works of art from the private collections of Michael M. Zagayski, of New York. The ritualistic items placed om display for the first time anywhere are among the rarest and oldest in existence. The anniversary exhibition! features selected works by such famous artists as Marc Chagall, Camille Pisarro, and the sculptor, Jacques Lipchitz, including the first public presentation of the canvasses of the Polish painter, Maurice Gottlieb, and eleven original Rembrandt etchings of Biblical scenes.
All of the art objects from the Zagayski collections will remain on view at the Museum until early August. The Jewish Museum is located at 1109 Fifth Avenue in the former home of Mrs. Felix M. Warburg, who presented the building to the Seminary im the winter of 1944. It was formally opened on May 7, 1947, and since then has pioneered in the presentation of

In a telegram to the President of Bolivia, Dr. Israel Goldstein, chairman of bhe Western. Hemisphere executive of the World Jewish Congress, expressed deep concern at the reported plan of the Bolivian Government to issue an import trade decree which is discriminating against naturalised Bolivians and aliens.
