of Greater Montreal will hold the first Synagogue Conference on February 8, 1951), at Shaare Zion Congregation. Jr~H. Berger, president of the Council, said that representatives of t w e n t y=two major affiliated congregations will participate. The Council works with the Canadian Jewish Congress and the Board of Jewish Ministers. Leon Kronitz, principal of Shaare Zion Congregational School, will- discuss the role and potential of the synagogue in Jewish education; Ben-jumin Herson, director of extension activities of Sha.ar Hasho-mayim Congregation, the role of rtho~synagoipic~iTT preserving the� identification of the Jews as the "people of the book"; Harvey
Golden, executive director of the Y.M.-Y.W.H.A., synagogue program in recreation and leisure-time activities and its relationship to that of other existing communal institutions charged with similar responsibilities; Murray Sklar, assistant executive director of the Federation of Jewish Community Services, the/ impact of the synagogue on the community as a whole. Rabbi S. M. Zambrowsky, president of the Board of Jewish Ministers and of the Religious Welfare Commit' tee of the Canadian" Jewish Congress, will speak. Dr. Michael Simon, Israeli Consul-General in Montreal, will present certificates issued by the Ministry of Religion of the State of Israel to congregations and individuals who contributed Sacred Scrolls (Sifrei Torah) for new settlements In Israel, The annual meeting and election will take place, The theme of the Conference is "The Synagogue, A Living Force In the Community".

Organization: Fred Packer, chairman of the Eastern Region, will address Ottawa Zionist groups on February 12, at 8.30 p.m., in the Ottawa Jewish Community Services Building, the first of a series of meetings throughout the Eastern region to "reactivate the organizational structure of the Eastern region and to develop closer liaison with the Montreal headquaters." Mr. Packer will be accompanied by Nat Gaisin, honorary secretary, and chairman of the United Israel Appeal for the Eastern Region; Ben Shaicovitch, president, Zionist Men's Association; Hillel Becker, chairman, Young Judaea; Isidor S.
