The Winnipeg Jewish community bicentenary celebration was a mass meeting, attended by 600 at the Playhouse Theatre, which was opened by J. A. Cherniack, chairman of the bicentenary committee, and one of the original founders of the Congress in 1919. The Lieut. Governor, J. S. McDiarmid, was presented with a leather bound copy of the bicentenary proclamation by S. M. Cherniack, Western chairman of the Congress, which sponsors the bicentenary. Rabbi Abraham L. Feinberg, of Holy Blossom Temple, in Toronto, the guest speaker, was introduced by Sol Kanee, a national vice-president Other speakers were: His Worship Stephen Juba, Mayor of Winnipeg; Harry John Thompson, Minister of Labour; Judge W. J. Lindal, president of the Ethnic Federation of Canada; Charles Dojack, president of the Canadian Press Club. Magistrate Nathan Green, Q.C., of Halifax, N.S., and Louis Rosenbloom, of Sherbrooke, Quebec, are bicentenary chairmen of their communities. A. J. Arnold is Vancouver bicentenary chairman, and his committee is: Mrs. Irving Becker, Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Checov, Mrs. Jack Zimmerman, Alan Gold, Drs. The programme was introduced by Mrs. H. Shiff. The topic, "East And West In The Women's World", was discussed by: Dr. M. Varma, of India; Mrs. J. H. Steh-renberger, of Switzerland; Mrs. A. Talbar, of Israel. Mrs. Shiff spoke about women's rights in the Province of Quebec. Mrs. M. S. Cohen thanked them.

The winner of last year's inter-chapter oratorical contest, Blue Star Chapter No. 825, acted as hostesses for the contest this year, at the Jewish Public Library. Cohen, contestant, "Boba Mahces" (Old Wives' Tales); president, Mrs. J. Shatz; St. Laurent, contestant, Mrs. E. Schaefer, on "My Impressions Of The Book, 'The Apprenticeship Of Doodie Kravitz', And Its Author, Mordecai Richler", president, Mrs. G. Vineberg; Laurentian, contestant, Mrs. M. Leavitt, on; "Leadership", president, Mrs. D. Slopack; Julius Bendit, contestant, Mrs. F. Weinstock, on "Bathtub Story", president, Mrs. R. Bessner. The winner was Mrs. M. The second annual international festival of food and music, to be sponsored by Laurentian Chapter, in observance of Brotherhood Week, will be on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, February 16 and 17, at the Town of Mount Royal Town Hall. Over twenty ethnic groups will display handicrafts^ foodstuffs and posters of their countries; and women, dressed in national costumes, will serve ethnic foods. The food and handicraft exhibit will open at 7.80 p.m., in the Schofield Hall. The public is invited. The Laurentian Choral Group, leadership of Mrs. A.
