Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cooper-smith, 339 Spadina Avenue, were in Montreal, Que., for the marriage of Miss Erika Heiss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Heiss, 3315 Maplewood Avenue, to Yehuda E. Bloom, son of Mrs. M. Bloom, 3395 Ellendale Avenue, and the late Morris Bloom, at Beth Hamedrash Hagadol Synagogue.
Mr. and Mrs; Samuel Zacks, 10 Benvenuto Place, entertained at their home in honour of Andre Chamson who was on a lecture tour on the invitaton of the Canada Council, accompanied by Mrs. Chamson. They spent a few days in Toronto at the Park Plaza Hotel, and Mr. Chamson spoke at the Howard Ferguson auditorium of the University of Toronto. A novelist and member of the Aca-demie Francaise, Mr. Chamson is also a director of the French National Archives.
Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Burack, 222 Wilson Avenue, celebrated the "pidyen ha-ben" of their son, Yacob Aryeh; grandson of Rabbi and Mrs. Aaron D. Burck, of 90 Laurel Hill, New York; and of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Feldman, 486 Clinton Street David Rosen-garten, 121 Barton Avenue, took the part of the "Cohen". Miss Levine wore a white, silk, organza gown, fashioned with a white lace bodice, over Chartreuse satin; and a matching cummerbund. Her wristlet bouquet was of white flowers. Mrs. Binstock wore a blue, satin sheath, made with three-quarter-length sleeves; and a scooped neckline; with a mauve orchid corsage. Shane Gary Lanys, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lanys, 179 Over-brook Place, was called to the Reading of the Law, in celebration of his bar-mitzvah, at Adath Israel Synagogue. He is the brother of Martin, aged eleven years; grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Fine, 1576 Eglinton Avenue West; and Mr. and Mrs. H. Lanys, 840 Eglinton Avenue West. A Kiddush luncheon followed. That evening there was a cocktial party at home, for the immediate family, and out-of-town guests. The following evening, at the Synagogue, three hundred guests were received at a cabaret-style dinner and reception. Mrs. Lanys, mother of the bar-mitzvah boy, wore a periwinkle-blue silk sari gown, with a gold inlay embroidery, the material imported from Pakistan. She had a white orchid wristlet bouquet. Mrs. Fine, grandmother of the bar-mitzvah boy, wore a Wedgwood blue, peau de soie gown; and fashioned with a scooped neckline, cap sleeves, and side draping, which was caught at the waist. She had a corsage of Talisman roses. Mrs. Lanys, grandmother of the bar-mitzvah boy, wore a sky blue, silk sheath; with a scooped neckline, short sleeves, and a side puff, on the slim skirt. She had a wristlet of Talisman roses. Seated at the head table with the family were: Rabbi and Mrs. E. Schild, and Mr. and Mrs. Marty Lanys, uncle and aunt. Marty Lanys acted as the master of ceremonies. The blessing over the challah was given oy Nathan Fine, grandfather of the bar-mitzvah boy. The background of the head table was composed of large fan-shaped baskets of spring flowers, with large yellow cathedral-style candles. The head table was trimmed with long tapering, yellow candles surrounded by yellow flowers. After the guests had been seated at their tables, a procession of young people was formed, with each carrying yellow candles; and they assembled at the sides of the head table. They were: Brian Goodman, Martin Tepper, Jerry Weisblatt, Sterling Bader, Mendel Finkelstein, Lome Colt, and David Rosen; Naomi Teitle, Ava Naslen, Blema Moskowitz, Rosalind Starr, Sheryl Appelle, Cindy Raskin, and Elaine Troister. Cantor J. Zigelstein followed them. Martin Lanys, brother of the bar-mitzvah boy, carried the tallith on a silver tray; and Shane Lanys, the bar-mitzvah boy, was blessed by the Cantor and escorted to his seat at the head table by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lanys.
