� SHOMRIM LABOKEA � Beth Yehudah-Shaare Tefillah. Dr. Chaim N. Denburg, Rabbi: Michael Howard, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Julius, 444D Hampton Avenue, will be called to the Reading of the Torah honouring his bar-mitzvah, on December 3. The newly completed Synagogue will be dedicated on December 11 at 2.00 p.m. Rabbi Denburg will deliver the sermon. The ceremonies will mark the amalgamation of three of the oldest Synagogues here, at the corner of Westbury and Plamondon Avenues. These Synagogues represent a combined total of 176 years of Service to the Jewish community. The afternoon ceremonies will honour past and present officers and members who made possible the completion of the present structure. There will be an evening banquet Rabbi S. Herschorn, Rabbi M. A membership of approximately eight hundred is in this auxiliary, which has worked to help maintain the hospital since its inception, eighteen years ago. Mrs. P. W. Cohen and 'Mrs. E. Besides raising money to aid the hospital, the members visit the hospital regularly; parties are arranged at festival times, and^*hejre are regular visits, with cigarettes and treats for ea.cn patient The Jewish Hospital of Hope is the only English-speaking, fully accredited hospital for the treatment of the chronically ill in Quebec. Mrs. M. Pinsky is Council president. The Players Group of the Council of Units presented a musical comedy. "Laurentian Lullaby", written and directed by Mrs. David Ritchie (Lil). Members of the cast were Mesdames Hyman Bercovitch, Arnold S. The members of the executive committee will be hosts to the Brethren of the Syracuse Lodge No. 9, Knights of Pythias, and their wives, at the Hospital on Sunday, December 4, at 2.15 p.m., at which time E. Leckner, Chancellor of the Lodge, assisted by Samuel Hannon, Samuel Kane, Myer Pinsky, David Schachter, Samuel S. The Jewish Culture Foundation of the Men's Association of Congregation Shaar Hashomayim in co-operation with Canadian Jewish Congress will inaugurate its first cultural function on Friday, December 9th when Dr. Salo Wittmeyer Baron, outstanding world renowned historian of Columbia University, will be the guest speaker. The occasion is the launching of the "Dubnow Year" by the World Jewish Congress which has proclaimed the year 5721 (1960-61) as a year of commemoration of the life and work of the late Simon Dubnow, who died as a martyr in the Ghetto of Riga on December 7th, 1941.

Ben-Zion Fischler, an Israeli Ul-pa^n expert who was invited for the second time to Canada to train teachers in the newest methods of teaching modern Hebrew, is now visiting communities in the Mari-timea to confer with teaching staffs and boards of education, and submit a report to Keren Hatar-fcut executive on the situation and problems of the various schools. He will also conduct workshops for adults to illustrate the effectiveness of the newest methods in teaching basic Hebrew in a short period of time.
