Society and Bridge Club, Montreal Branch, held their semiannual meeting at the top of Mount Royal. Harold Hoffman, president, spoke oh "Feathers Are A Bird's Best Friend". Mrs. Harold (Vivianne) Hoffman, club secretary, recounted her first-hand experiences with an American thunderbird. Guy Lalumiere, guest ornithologist, lectured on "Honore De Balzac Et Son Amour Pour Les Oiseaux". Albert Nussbaum, of the Toronto Branch, will deliver an address on "Birds I've Watched in Montreal", at a meeting to take place some time in April.

Young Women's Groups joint meeting is on Wednesday, January 25, for a panel discussion, "Israel And The New African States", with participants, Norman May, a law student at McGill University; Enianuel N. Omeriuker, a McGill student, from Nigeria; and Got-fried K. Agama, a McGill student, from Ghana. Friends are invited. Mrs. H. Borshy, cultural chairman, arranged the program. Mrs. I. � Robert Lazarus, of Hollywood, Cal,. formerly of Montreal, known professionally as Robert Lawrence, is the son of Mrs. Sarah Lazarus, 6255 Northcrest Place, Montreal; and the late Joseph Lazarus. He was film editor of the film, "Spartacus". He is the brother of Henry, of New York; Saul, 934 Wilder Avenue; Ben Zion, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. H. L. Silverstone (Dora), 838 Pratt Avenue; and Miss Malka Lazarus. Born here, Robert lived with his family above a St. Lawrence Boulevard .bookstore, operated by his father, and attended Devonshire School. He later went to Baron Byng High School, and finally to Columbia University, in New York, where he studied journalism. He was a student at the Jewish People's School, and a member 9f the Y.M.H.A. While he worked in the aircraft industry during the Second World War he was transferred to the West Coast. In Hollywood, Robert worked his way up through the production side of the film industry and Was assistant editor for several major productions before Spartacus. He now is in Spain working on the film, "El rid".

Presents Miss Belva Boroditsky, soprano soloist with Temple Emanu-El, singing a leading role in Handel's oratorio, "Judas Mac-c-abaeus", with full orchestra, on Tuesday, January 24, at 8.15 p.m., in St. James United Church. Gif-ford Mitchell, musical director, will conduct the group, which is Montreal's oldest English-speaking choir; starting its thirty-seventh season. A native of Winnipeg, Miss Boroditsky studied music in London, singing with the Arts Council Grand Opera Group; and with the famous Glyndebourne opera group, while in England.
