National Council thirty-sixth annual conference in Atlantic City, N.J., is on May 31 to June 5. Officers are: Dr. Joseph Diamond, of Toronto, president; Dr. Meir Ben-Horin, of Philadelphia, Pa.; Dr. Harry Elkin, of Provindence, R.I.; Dr. Abraham E. Millgram, of New York; Louis Schwartzman, of Miami, Florida; all vice-presidents; Dr. Aaron Soviv, of Newark, N.J., secretary; Samuel J. Borowsky, of New York, general secretary; Dr. Isidor Margolis, of New York, treasurer. Dr. Elazar Goelman, Dean of Gratz College, Philadelphia, Pa., chairman of the program committee. The Council is comprised of the leading Jewish educators of the Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform groups in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Several major sessions will discuss the scope and program of the World Jewish Education Assembly, to take place in August, in Jerusalem, ana its implications for American Jewish education. The place of the Dav School in the American Jewisn community will be examined; also the extent to which electronic aids can be utilized in the teaching of Hebrew; techniques and results of experiments which may revolutionize conventional methods of teaching Hebrew, which will be demonstrated. Specialized groups will conduct seminars. Educational heads of national Jewish organizations and local Bureaus of Jewish Education; principals of Jewish schools of all types; instructors in Jewish schools of higher learning and in secondary Hebrew schools; directors of music, dramatics, dancing, arts and crafts, in the Jewish Schools, will review the status of their field in Jewish education and formulate plans for the future. The Jewish Library Association, Miss Miriam Leikind, of Cleveland, Ohio, president, will hold its first national gathering in conjunction with the meeting of the Council. The agenda of the three-day session deals with the role of the Jewish library, its standards and technical problems, and the status of the Jewish book generally. The Council will join the convention of the National Conference of Jewish Communal Service. The Oneg Shabbat will hear a distinguished American educator, Dr. Alexander M. Dushkin, Professor Emeritus of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, as guest speaker. He will review the contemporary Jewish situation throughout the world, with special reference to the program of the Institute of Contemporary Jewry of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The theme of the joint sessions is "Major Trends In The Various Communal Services Reviewed In Their Social Contexts."
