Adolph S. Ochs, publisher of the New York Times, has always kept aloof from the Zionist movement. Not long ago he paid a visit to Palestine and what he saw there led him to publicly express his admiration for the work which is being done by the Jewish pioneers, and his confidence in the future of Palestine, as a country.
You will read our report of what has been done in Canada since the last convention, and while it ist the best report in our history, how insignificant it appears, when contrasted with what has been accomplished in Palestine, and what is yet to be done before our National Home becomes a reality. This convention is taking place at a most important stage in the development of our Homeland. As we meet only once in eighteen months, the time of the convention is very valuable. We must not waste it. We should not have any destructive criticism or senseless discussion. We want only constructive thought, so that we may devise ways and means of raising larger sums, and as economically as possible.
While I am on the subject, I wish to say that I cannot refer too highly to the assistance rendered me by my colleagues—the members of the executive. I feel I am conservative in saying that I do not believe that we ever had an executive that has worked so harmoniously, so conscientiously, for a common cause.
