"HANNAH IS BACK WITH US"
"Hannah is back with us." There was great joy in the psychiatric hospital for children perched high on a hilltop in the J.udean Mountains, west of Jerusalem. The youngsters hugged her. The bus driver's little daughter, who for years had been unable to talk, tugged at her white smock. There was a strong bond between these two, for it was Hannah who had first succeeded in making the child utter some sounds, and then to talk.
Hannah had been away for only ten months, and even while she was away she frequently came to visit the forty-five young patients. It was by no means a vacation. She had taken a year's leave to complete her studies for a B.A.

degree at the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work, established at Jerusalem's Hebrew University with help from the Joint Distribution Committee, the Ministry of Social Welfare, and the Tel Aviv Municipality.
For more than a year Hannah had saved toward the day when she could add to the two-year social work course she had taken some ten years earlier. Then came
the windfall, a $766 grant from the Trust Fund for Psychiatric Projects shared jointly by JDC-Malben, with United Jewish Appeal funds, and the Ministry of Health, the same fund which also established the hospital where Hannah worked. She and another social worker who had shown a special skill in working with troubled children were picked to take a special social work course at the Paul Baerwald School. The two girls took a year's leave of absence without pay and returned to school.
"This course gave me the specialized training I needed to be able to understand the problems of my children better and help them return to a more normal, a happier, childhood," she said. All her adult life Hannah had worked with children, at first with healthy children in a kindergarten in Holland. Then, in Israel, she worked in Youth Aliyah establishments, and after her social work training, in the juvenile probation service. As she grew more experienced she sought jobs where she could work with disturbed children and their parents.
In the hospital, where she had been working since it opened in 1958, even a rare case of success
was highly gratifying. Here the need for an experienced and understanding social worker was great, especially since the patienU ranged from retarded children to children classified as aggressive, chronic psychopaths.
Her studies completed, Hannah Goldmann is anxious to return to work, at "a job where I will be able to help repair damage before a child has to be admitted to an institution," she said.

on sabbath nights, in many jewish homes in canada, a decanter of Mazel Tov wine finds its place on the starched tablecloth, right beside the challah.
Mazel Tov is a wine with a taste you'll 'remember', a ruby red, richly sweet 'kiddush' wine made of concord grapes grown in the vineyards of the niagara peninsula.
Mazel Tov made 'kosher l'pesach' under strict rabbinical supervision, is available throughout the year, for every "simcha".
