-Metropolitan Theatre, by the-Jewish Musical Club. The performance, which was the first concert of the recently formed" organization, was highly commendable and gives promise, for the future success of the club, which has for its aim the development of Jewish music in Winnipeg..
Choruses and solos made up the programme with one or two instrumental numbers "included. Under the direction of M. Jacobs, the choir acquitted itself most creditably, and the sihging of the solists was of high quality. Misses Celia Wet, soprano, and Annie Wet, contralto, and Hyman Cohen and A. Fingard, baritones, presented Jewish folk-songs of various types. The, pianoforte.^olos of Miss Ida Stoekhammer and the selections on the organ by Hard Green were much appreciated. Mr. Jacobs ;in addition to conducting the choir, offered a,vopal solo. One of the outstanding features of the evening was the*song "The Three Dressmakers," l the music of which Mr. yacbbs had composed to the words of the famous Jewish poet, E; L. Peretz. :
Harold Green and Miss Celia Wet were accompanists. The 'concert was given under the management 6f B. Sheps.
KAPPA OMTKKON FRATERNITY
A number of Jewish young men of the City of Hamilton, Ont., have originated and put into execution a distinctly new idea"The Kappa Omikron Fraternity."
Although many of the ceremonies and rules pertaining to the order are kept secret, it is permissible to give to the .uninitiated a definite idea of the why and wherefore of the Kappa Omikron.
Kappa and Omikron are the tenth and fifteenth letters of the Greek alphabet.
The letter Kappa is derived from the Hebrew Kaph, which means the palm of the hand, denoting service to humanity.
The letter Omikron is derived from the Hebrew letter Ayin, which means the eye, denoting observance of distress. . .

The emblem of the Fraternity therefore ia the palm of the hand an<| the rye, the hand to be of service and the eye to observe, to see and do being the motto.
Since-all efforts of. beneficence are modest and never aggressive in self-laudation, the KAPPA OMIKRONS veil the origin of their existence in allegory. The allegory read* as follows;
In ancient Greece there lived two Hebrews, Kaph and Ay in. They were, contrary to the Hebrew custom, named not after some departed relative, but after the tenth and fifteenth letters 6f the alphabet.
Under Greek oppression they were compelled to give up their religion, and live as Greeks. In order to be free from persecution and not be recognized as Hebrews they changed their names t,o the -Greek equivalents, Kappa and Omikron.
Kappa and Omikron were filled with a desire to kelp their Starving brethren and the poor. of the community in general. Their funds were limited but this did not deter them. Once every month they got together and compared notes on the;most deserving case they had seen that needed help. They then decided and put their decision into execution.
Their lives became so happy and they radiated so much good in their continuous planning and monthly acts of charity that other men were attracted ,to the idea. A Fraternity was formed and named Kappa Omikron after these two-men. The country resounded with the good deeds of this Fraternity but like all g^eat movements in dark ages they met with ah obscure end,
The marauding arid barbarous hordes, from the north overran the country and : with; the subjection of .the Greeks the Fraternity of Kappa Omikron was lost in the maelstrom of bloodshed.
The idea is not confided to Hamilton and any. group of reputable young men in any city, wishing to "investigate and desiring more information with the view of starting a. Frater> nity is invited to correspond with "the Secretary of Kappa Omikron," Drawer 578, Dundas, Ontario."
FIRST YIDDISH THEATRE ON j BROADWAY :
Presents "The Three Little Business Men/' . by Oscar M. Carter
New York (J.T.A.).Thoniashefsky's Broad-way Yiddish Theatre opened last week at what was the Bayes Theatre on.44th Street, with a. performance of Oscar M. Carter's, "The Three : Little Business Men." The play, a swift-moving picture of Jewish-American life and manners, was in Yiddish.
Rudolph Schildkraut, Ludwig Satz and Bora Thomashefsky, three noted stars of the Jewish stage are playing the roles of the three business men. Mr. Schildkraut again showed the astounding abilities that he has. always brought to his dramatic efforts. Mr. Satz, who depended for his effects more upon the orthodox'stimuli of the Yiddish stage, did not find his trust misplaced. Mr. Thomashefsky, too, in no way disappointed his admirers or startled them by the introduction of aHen methods.
The music is by Joseph Cherniavsky. and U essentially Jewish. The lyrics are by Efias Ginsberg and Ludwig Satz, the former a veteran of the Palestine Jewish Legion, and the author of several play*. The setdags were modern, of a type that might wdH grace half the other shows in town, and the direction provided for speed and darity. :
Pola Carter, the playwright's wife, Richard Webb, Golde Lubritsky, Retina Znckerberg. Irving Grossman, Freda Ziebd, A. Erber aad Gershon Rubin completed the cast.

"We take great pleasure in enclosing our respective pfcecks for $1.000 each, which go with our prayers and our best wishes for the successful raising of the fresh fund, the necessity for which seems to be due to the dereliction of various subscribers to the tune of three millions of dollars.
"It does not seem credible that there could be so many heartless people in this country who would place their name? to a pledge with so little., thought of what it meant. It seems too bad that some method cannot be adopted to force settlement out of, those who have the ability to pay, and if ther* is no other way such delinquents should be ostracized by any decent society or any decent people.
"We hope that the publication of the newspaper : article may have .prompted many of the apparent delinquents to do their duty."
Copies of this lettet have been 'sent to scores of communities throughout the country to serv as an inspiration to the delinquents who have not as yet paid their pledge to the European Jewish war sufferers. '
