The bar-mitzvah of Lome, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Shapiro, 42 An-worth Road, Westmount, took place at the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue Saturday, January 9, Rev. Dr. Abram-owitz officiating. Mrs. Shapiro was at home Sunday, January 10, from four o'clock to seven. She wore a gown of coral colour georgette and was assisted in receiving by Mrs. J. H. Vineberg, in powder blue georgette. Those who assisted in serving were Mrs. Marcus Auerbach, tan georgette, and Mrs, Alfred Tencer, champagne georgette. Decorations and Rowers were yellow,

OBITUARY
The death occurred in Jacksonville, on January 8, of twelve-year-old Mildred Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Carter, formerly of Montreal, now of Jacksonville, Florida. She is survived by her sister, Miriam, and her brothers, Jack and Carl,
Esther Malka Fchrier, wife of Harry \V. Schrier, and mother of Louis, Dave and Manny, Mrs. H, Cohen, Mrs. M. Goodman, and Miss Fanny Schrier, of Montreal, died Thursday, January 7, in her sixty-third year. Funeral from the residence, 1961 Mance Street, to the Chevra Mishnayas Cemetery, Friday, January 8. Mrs. Schrier was a member of the' Ladies' Relief, Ladies' Biknr Choilim, Malbush Arunim, and the Montefiore Orphans' Home. She is survived by her husband, children, and twelve grandchildren.

The marriage of Miss Minnie (kid-stein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Goldstein, to Henry Miller, sen of Mr. and Mrs. J. Miller, was solemnized, Sunday. January 3, at the Majestic-Hall, Rabbi Be'rger officiating. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin over white georgette. honour, in cerise georgette trimmed with gold lace and carried a bouquet of tea roses, R. B. Cohen was best man. The bridesmaids were: Misses Dot Goldstein, in pencil blue georgette; Sara Auerbach, peach georgette; and Dorothy Gasco, green georgette. They carried bouquets of tea roses. The flower girls were Annie Gasco, pink georgette, and Tootsie Gasco, peach georgette. Roth carried baskets of narcissi. The ushers wrere Nat Lauria, Sydney Axelrad, Samuel Goldstein. The groom's gift to the maid of honour was an ivory vanity bag, and to the bridesmaids, pearl chokers. Mrs, Goldstein, mother of the bride, wore a gown of orchid georgette trimmed with crystal beads, corsage of American Beauty roses. Mrs. Miller, mother of the groom, wore black satin, beaded, with corsage of American Beauty roses. The out-of-town guests were Misses Sybil and Rose Lax, Miss Annie Leibovitch, Louis Herzberg, all of Quebec. A sit-down supper was served to 160 guests. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller left for a short trip to Ottawa, Chicago and Niagara Falls, and will live at the Zona Apartments, Jeanne Mance Street.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Levine, Victoria Street, entertained at a formal dinner, reception and dance, Sunday, January 3, in honour of the engagement of thei'r eldest daughter, Jennie, to Abe Rosen-baum. The rooms were decorated with palms and cut flowers and covers were laid for sixty guests. Miss Dora Levine sang "Elegy" and "Because," accompanied at the piano by Gerald Fels. The marriage of Cecelia R. Farber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D.
