LADIES' BIKUR CHOILLM SOCIETY
The opening meeting- of the Ladies' Bikur Choilim Society board took place September 1 at the home of Mrs. N. Beecher, 185 Mount Rpyal West. Mrs. M. Lefkowitz presided. The hostess, Mrs, N. Beecker, donated a marmalade dish, which was raffled and won by Mrs. Weinstein, who donated a dollar. The raffle realized $5. A vote of thanks was given the hostess and her daughters, the Misses Beecher, who assisted her with refreshments. General meeting September 15, at Annex Hall, 142 Fair-mount West. Donations of $2 each were received from Mesdames M. Lefkowitz, B. Cohen, N. Beecher, T. Winter, and A. Poyanner, and $1 each from Mesdames I. Gold, Halperin, A. Goldman, Cooperstock, Levey, Schwartz and H. Sherchuk. Theatre party at the Monument National, Wednesday evening, October 27.
Work on the projected road between Jaffa and the Petah Tikvah colony has suddenly been stopped by the order of the Palestine Government. The Jewish colonists who were very enthusiastic about this road, feel very much disappointed at the action of the government.
Crown Prince Adolphus of Sweden will visit Palestine shortly, according to a report from Jerusalem. lie will head a group of Swedish tourists.
Dr. Samuel Krauss of the Rabbinic Theological Seminary of Austria will lecture at the Rabbi Isaac Elena nan Theological Seminary, according to an announcement made by Dr. Revel, head of the institution. Dr. Krauss is one of the world's greatest Semitic scholars.
Dr. Paulina Shiff, first woman in Italy to hold a professorship, died recently in Milan. Mme. Shiff was an ardent suffragette and one of the founders of the International Women's League.

One of the foremoet Jewish publicists in Holland, Dr. David Cohen, of The Hague, has "been appointed Professor in Ancient History at the University of Amsterdam.
