Ornstein on the Keren Hayeaod Fund. Books of raffle tickets for a hand-crotcheted tea cloth and napkins were distributed. Mrs. J. Issenman is convener of this raffle, which was donated by Mrs. P. Gold-blatt. A tray, donated by Mrs. Rosen-baum, will go to th& one who sells the most tickets. Presentations of trees and land were made to Mrs. H. Aron and Mrs. S. Wittes in honour of their babies' births; also to Mrs. Lang in honour of her son's engagement. Miss Anne Tritt recited. Rabbi Zlotnkk spoke. Mrs. S. Kahn gave a vote of thanks. Refreshments. The Menorah Society of Hadassah met at the home of the president, Mrs. B. Kahn, Jeanne Mance Street, September 20. The Society donated $50 to the Moza Convalescent Home, Palestine. This money came through the raffle of a doll at the home of Miss Lillian Freedman. The Menorah Society is convener of the flower bcoth at the Palestine Fair.

LITHUANIAN JEWS ORGANIZE
A conference to discuss the cultura roblems as they effect the Jewi of ithuania will be held at Kovno on September 26. It is declared that eighty per cent, of the Jewish schools in Lithuania use Hebrew as the vernacular. The conference will aim to strengthen the school system and to discuss ways and . means of furthering Jewish culture in all its branches.
The President of Lithuania, Dr. Grinius, delivered a message of greetings to the conference of the Jewish Health Society (OZE) of Lithuania, which was recently held in Kovno. A conference of the Lithuanian city administrators which was to be held on September 17 and 18, was postponed on account of Yora Kippur.

By J. L. Meltzk* Hassan Ibn Sliman Abu Suleiman was unhappy. A spiritual hunger gnawed at the strings of his heart. The spring had entered into his bones, and he desired to be off and away into the solitude and the wilderness. He wanted, like the Arab of old, to fold his tent and steal quietly into the night. But Hassan was tied to his village; he was no longer a bachelor, and, as his wife often vociferously testified, his was no longer the freedom of single bliss. For one thing, there was little Suleiman, his eldest son, and for another, there was the other little one who had yet to make his (or her) appearance.
"May Allah bum her house and the house of her fathers!" groaned the afflicted Hassan, as he heard his wife quarreling with a shrill-voiced neighbour outside his hut. "May she never live to see another moon rise, that devil of Shaitan! May three hundred and forty-five curses overtake her and torment her separately and severally, that limb of evil! Curse her and her mother's daughter!"
For Hassan was decidedly upset-Around the village the. jackels howled and the owl mourned dolefully at night.
