SHOOTS HOLD-UP MAN
J. Shapira, Jeweller, 5036 Sherbrooke Street West, shot a bandit in the kit side and leg'when the man entered his shop; Friday, October 6, at 6.30 p.na.
According to the information gathered by the pobce and',the detectives who investigated the case^Shapira was alone in his jewellery shop and had taken the day's cash, |95, from the safe and placed it in a drawer beneath the counter. Just then a man walked in and pulled out a large pistol. He pointed it at Shapira.
"Put up your hands," he ordered, "and be quiet or I'll shoot." Shapira obeyed, and was then told to sit down on a nearby chair. _ Still covering the shop-keeper with his pistol the intruder opened the cash drawer and took out the money. He then ordered Shapira to stand up and attempted to remove from his finger a diamond ring and hie tie pin.
In arising from his chair, Shapira noticed that his revolver, which was on the counter within reach, had been overlooked by the robber, and he seized it. The robber struck Shapira on the forehead with the butt end of his revolver and there was a scufBe for the possession of Shapings weapon. Shapira managed to free his hand and he fixed twice atom assailant and both bullets hit their mars:. The- robber then dropped 1 his own weapon and ran out of the door. ";
