CANADA NEED8 *OM PEOPLE, SAYS SPEAKER
Canada needs more people to help pay off the national debt, B. W. Jacobs. K.C., MP, declared in the open -ins lecture Friday evening, February 7 of a seriel sponsored by the Montreal branch of Canadian Young Ju-daea and the Young Men's Hebrew Association and given in the lecture tall of the new Y.M.KLA. building, at Park avenue and Mount Royal. Mr. Jacobs, representative at Ottawa for Cartier division, made a plea for a more generous admission to Canada of Jews, who, he said, were not found in the "soup Lines" in large cities.
In season and out of season for the past 13 years he had been attempting to convince other representatives at Ottawa that the Jewish immigrant should be encouraged to come to Canada. Prospective Jewish Immigrants to the Dominion had peculiar obstacles in their path which will likely prevent the migration of any great number of Jews to this country for, at elast, a number of years, Mr. Jacobs pointed out. The Jews who want to emigrate from their native countries live mostly in the "non-preferred class* countries' of central and southern Europe. This enabled only a small fixed number to come here each year.
