Ten candidates qualified and Alderman Louis Rubenstein presented .the Louis Rubenstein gold medal for oratory to the winner. Second and Jtbird prizes were given by Sol Kellert and I. Z. Diner. H. R. Cohen, Jos. Cohen, K.C. S. E. Schwisberg. S. Leon Mendelsohn, and Jos. Eliesen, were judges. Details later.
Special orchestrations of the modern Jewish composers, Achron and Bloch, have been prepared for the Y.M.H.A. musicale, to be held in the Auditorium Sunday evening, March 2nd under the direction of M. Bist-roff, Russian musician and member, of~the Jewish Music Society of Russia. The Intermediate Division of 620 boys of 15 to 17 years of age, will present Thursday, March 6th., David Pinski's "Cripples," and Lord Dun-sany's, "A Night in an Inn." Jos. W. Gordon, directing. Louis Fitch,.K.C., will speak at the Y.M.H.A.-Young Judaea Forum Friday evening, March 7th on "New Developments in Hebrew Literature." A. W. Binder, concert artist of New York, will appear for the second time at the Y. in April.
m.a.a.a. and y.m.h.a. win in play-offs^
M.A.A.A. and Y.M.H.A. junior hockey squads came through Saturday, February 22, elimination rounds for the provincial championship and will meet Saturday for the district title and the right to meet the Quebec winners for the provincial title. M. A.A.A. swamped Maroons, of Sherbrooke by a 4 to 0 score, In a sudden death game at the Forum on Saturday afternoon, the Y.M.H.A. won out over the Ca-Ma-Va Club of the East End League by a 1 to 0 count at the Arena.
The Wheelers had little trouble in disposing of their rivals from Sherbrooke, Maurice Hebert gave the local team the lead whs* he soared early in the first period. Farmer took a hand in the second session and counted twice to give the Wheelers a three-goal lead, while Smith the i emaining regular forward "counted in the final period for the fourth goal.
Y.M.H.A- did not gain its victory as easily. The players from the East End gave the Hebrew Association some trouble and the teams battled scoreless for the first two periods. In the final frame, Grossman, YJC H.A.'a stellar wing player, beat Bro-sette with a side shot and despite Ca-Ma-Va's desperate efforts, Y.M. H.A. held its lead until the final gosg.

A. M. Klein, Educational Director of Young Judaea, spoke Monday, February 24th, on "Jewish Humour." The next talk is on Monday March 10th, at 8.45 p.m., when Mrs. L M. Konowitx will speak on "Jewish Folklore," to a group Interested in public speaking and debating, Monday, February 24th., Bernard Alexander spoke. Full information about a society for public speaking and debating from Harbour 9833. The study of period costuming and designing as related to dramatic expression is being started. Those interested in this work were responsible for thr stage settings for the plays presented recently and assisted the Junior and Intermediate Dramatic Societies. Miss Mary Lewis is in charge. Miss Sadie Batist was the guest of honour aL a tea, February 15th., in the "Y" lounge rooms, by board directors, members, and friends, a set of sterling toilet pieces was presented by Mrs. A. Z. Cnhen, president of the Y.W.ILA-, on behalf of those present, in appreciation of many years of service. Miss Batist is a second year student of the McGill School for Social Work, and leaves the "Y" to complete her studies therv. Mrs. P. Abbey and Mrs, J. Rubin were on the committee for arrangements.
