VISITOR OUTLINES AIMS OF COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN
Religion, education, and philanthropy were cited as the foundation upon which the National Council of Jewish Women has raised its present structure, by Mrs. I. 1C E. Prager, of Boston, Mass., in her address at the opening meeting of the Montreal Council Wednesday afternoon, November 5 in Windsor Hall.
Mrs. Prager, who is secretary for the National Council of Jewish Women of the United States, with which are affiliated several councils In various centres in Canada, said that in so far as religion is concerned, the National Council has as its slogan, "Give the community what it needs," and in order to a-void overlapping it establishes Sabbath schools only in those centres where there are no Jewish religious facilities. The Council membership embraces women who are Orthodox, Conservative_6r Reformed Jews,
In the educational department, the aim is to fit Jewish women to take their part in the life of the community, by inculcating a sense of civic responsibility, especially among those who are recent arrivals from European countries. The immigration work, coming undeY this department, which used to be conducted at the point of debarkation Is now begun at the point of embarkation. Survey work among foreign-born Jewish people has been carried, out, with a view to helping in child welfare, the care of members of families separated per-
\ps by the quota laws, and similar work. Mrs. David NotJdn, the incoming president of the Montreal Council, presided, and MVs. Martin Wolff thanked Mrs, Prager. Mrs. Max Bemfeld read the third annual report of Council Camp. Camp reunion will be held during the Chan-ukah holidays.
