Gus Kahn died in Hollywood, leaving as his monument tunes which have been hummed and whistled by young and old Americans for many years. The list includes "My Blue Heaven," "Carolina in the Morning," "Mammy," "One Night of Love" and "Memories." --
These are only a few of the song hits from his prolific pen as a composer both in Tin Pan Alley and in Hollywood.
Mr. Kahn was preparing for breakfast at his home la Beverly
*wXh �m?*were^h5 wife, Mrs, Grace Leroy Kahn, and his children, Irene and Donald.
With his partner, Walter Don-aktson, he came to Hollywood eight years ago to give his talents to the musicals. Frequently a now tune would come to them while dining and they would Jot it down on a tablecloth. They would take the tablecloth jtome with them and the waiter would charge it to their account Thus a new song hit was born.
Mr. Kahn was a leading member of ASCAP and played a prominent part on the Pacific Coast in the society's fight with the radio networks.
His last work for the screen was at Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer ana waa in collaboration with Mr. Donaldson, Ton Stepped Out Of A Dream," one of the songs Tony Martin sang in "Zlegfeld GtrL"
Mr. Kahn was a lyricist and Mr. Donaldson usually contributed the score. Mr. Kahn was bom in Germany and was brought to the VS. at the age of four.
