Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shapiro, 19 Fulwell Crescent, celebrated the bar-mitzvah of their son, Mark Joel, who was called to the Reading of the Law, at the Borochov Centre. He is the brother of Bernard, aged eight years; and of Austin, three; grandson of Mrs. Annie Ludwig. 211 Brighton Avenue; and of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shapiro, 196 Brunswick Avenue. Kiddush was observed after the services. The following evening, Mr, and Mrs. Shapiro were hosts to two hundred and twelve guests. Mrs. Shapiro wore an embossed, white, two-piece crepe gown, with a beaded jacket. The gown was sleeveless, with a round neckline. She had matching accessories, and had a turquoise-blue-shaded orchid wristlet. Mrs. Ludwig, grandmother, wore a two-piece, blue, cocktail dress, with a jacket; and had a wristlet of yellow and white Sweetheart roses. Mrs. Shapiro, grandmother, wore a blue shantung cocktail dress; and had a wristlet of~ yellow and white Sweetheart roses. Moe Kravitz, 211 Brighton Avenue, uncle, was master of ceremonies. Joseph Shapiro, grandfather, ask the blessing over the challah. Mrs. Shapiro wore a black, two-piece, crepe suit, which had a flowered top; with matching accessories.
DEATHS
Max Rosen, died on April 17, at the Baycrest Hospital,* at the age of eighty-six years. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Bella Rich, 666 Crawford Street; Mrs. S. Kazenal (Rose), 10 Saranac Boulevard; Mrs. J. Ellison (Freda), 524 .Rushton Road; and a son, Louis Rosen, 3240 Bathurst Street, and a brother, Louis Rosen, 49 Dell Park Avenue. Interment was at Dawes Road Cemetery. Shiva was observed at 666 Crawford Street.
Harry Metter, 232 Markham Street, died on April 16 at Doctors' Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Metter; a daughter, Miss Toby Rose Metter; a sister, Mrs. B. Kaplan (Mollie), of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a brother, Harold J. Metter, 23 Flanders Road; Rabbi Jordan Pearlson officiated at the funeral services, at the College Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Bathurst Lawn Cemetery. Shiva was observed at the home. Mr. Metter was a member of the Thirty-Eighth Battalion, of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
Mrs. Gertrude Etigson, 3311 Bathurst Street, died on April 23, at the age of eighty-one years, at the Doctors' Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph Etigson; and is siltvived by two daughters Mrs. Ralph Hyman (Edith), 9 Birdsall Avenue; and Miss Pearl Etigson, of Toronto; and a son, Ralph Etigson, 24 York Downs Drive. Rabbi Walter Wurzburger, and Rabbi Aaron Zimmerman, officiated at the funeral services. Interment was at the Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery. Shiva was observed at 3311 Bathurst Street.
Mrs. Rose Porter, 1035 Eglinton Avenue, died on April 18, at her home, at the age of sixty-eight years. She was the widow of Harry Porter; and is survived by a son. Rabbi Monson officiated, assisted by Cantor Paul Sheldon, of New York. The bride was given in marriage by her parents. She wore a two-piece, white, silk mohair suit, with a silk hat, adorned with veiling. She carried a white Bible, with orchids. Mrs. Allan Winnick, sister of the bride, was matron of honour, wearing a gold-coloured, two-piece suit, with a matching hat; and her flowers were yellow roses. Miss Rita Rosenberg was maid of honour, in a powder-blue suit, and hat. Her flowers were pink, and white roses. Les Burstyn was best man. There was a dinner and reception. Mrs. Reingold, mother of the bride, wore a three-piece suit; with a multi-coloured, flowered hat. Her corsage was of yellow roses. Mrs. Wise, mother of the groom, wore a three-piece blue suit, and a white hat; with a corsage of pink rosebuds. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wise spent their honeymoon in New York. Mrs. Wronzberg, mother of the bride, wore a powder-blue, crepe gown, which had a round neckline; cap sleeves; and a beaded bodice; also a blue headpiece. Mrs. Goldkind, mother of the groom, wore a beaded, baby-blue, crepe gown, cut with a round neckline; and cap sleeves; also a matching headpiece. Each had a mauve orchid corsage.
