four years of satisfactory attend-ance at a recognised week-day Hebrew school.
Rabbi Hyman said a transition period of four years will be allowed when all children nine or over who enrolled immediately in a weekday school will be eligible. The Jewish Community School, the Temple Adath Hebrew School and the Concord Hebrew School were recognized as qualified to prepare for a bar-mitzvah ceremony.
A bar-mitzvah committee of Rabbi Hyman and Dr. Isaac Levitas, director of the Bureau of Jewish Education, was named to draw up regulations and enforce the resolution.
The regulations approved by the Rabbinical Council provide that in special cases, a boy may take private lessons. Special cases include reasons which make it impossible for a candidate to attend a recognized school, such as ill health, distance from school, recent arrival in the city, or any other reason accepted by the bar-mitzvah committee.
In such cases, Rabbi Hyman said, the candidate will be given an examination by the bar-mitzvah committee to determine whether he has

Congregations will perform the bar-mitzvah ceremony on the Sabbath only upon presentation by the candidate of a certificate from the bar-mitzvah committee. Congregations must apply to the committee for such certificates at least a month before the date of the given bar-mitzvah.
