To Care For Child Crash Survivor
A resolution to provide maintenance for Isaac Allal, only survivor of twenty-eight refugee children in a plane crash near Oslo, Norway, on November 21, was unanimously adopted by the Pioneer Women at the jubilee conference in New York, before forty national board and regional chairmen representing 35,000 members in the U.S. and Canada.
This 11-year-old boy, like hh two brothers and sister and the other children who perished, were Youth Aliyah youngsters destined ultimately for Israel, Mrs. Goldstein, noted, stressing the need to "show interest in the living as well as in memorializing the dead."
The sum of $4,200 will be provided, enough to care for Isaac until he reaches the age of 18, at the rate of $600 a year in Youth Aliyah, which cares for young immigrants. This money, M,rs. Goldstein emphasized, will be separate from the $250,000 for Youth Aliyah that the organization has pledged.
"The child's name," Mrs. Goldstein said, "is Allal, meaning to go up. Despite his horrible ordeal, Isaac, on his hospital cot, said: 'I want to be a'pilot when I prow up su'H fly for Israel'.*'
To remember the other plane victims who died in the crash, Mrs. Goldstein introduced a proposal
